Jace had to laugh. This was exactly the reaction he was looking for.
"If you want to see them again, I suggest you start treating your fiance better."
Brae wasn't stupid enough to agree to this request without her own conditions.
Besides, even if she acknowledges to him that he is her fiance, people lie all the time.
Plus she had good reason to lie. Who wants to marry a crazy, psychotic, controlling misogynist.
"Okay, you're my fiance and I'll start treating you better".
Jace smiled. He knew she was lying but she's been gone for so long he didn't care.
Even her pretending to care was good enough for him at this point.
Well, for now at least.
"They're in the basement, Sara is alive", he said.
Brae let out a relived sigh before her head flew up again in fearful realization.
"What about Pete, where is he?", she knew asking would anger him but she needed to know.
The car turned oppressive and cold.
Brae didn't want to be looking at his face, scared of his expression. She kept her head down waiting for the answer.
After waiting a minute, she knew the question wouldn't be answered.
When moments like this happened Brae usually coaxed him to forgive her.
Even this moment she didn't care for her pride. Will pride guarantee her safety?
She just needed to suck up to Jace and pretend like Pete meant to nothing to her.
It wouldn't be easy and he knew her too well for her to not take it seriously.
She didn't want to be doing this for the long run either, it needed to be quick.
Whilst Brae was thinking, Jace was keenly observing her, not missing a single move of the muscle.
Finally Jace opened his mouth, "Like I said earlier, that would depend on you."
"Are you serious right now, Jace. So what, you want me to just fall in love with you, marry you, and just stick to your side my whole life?", Brae said sarcastically.
Jace stared at her like she was stupid.
"Yes. Did I ever deceive you with my expectations Brae, that's what I told you I wanted four years ago. Why wouldn't I want it now?."
Although that was her plan anyways, saying it aloud really put things into perspective for her.
If it didn't work out she would be stuck with him and Pete could probably still die, maybe even Sara. Jace wasn't the most honest person.
But what other plans could she come up with right now. Her brain was under so much stress and anxiety.
Brae wished she was a person who worked well under pressure. She chastised herself internally.
Jace grew impatient. He knew the longer she thought, the more distracted she would get and her wanted an answer now.
"If you don't give me an answer in the next ten seconds then say goodbye to both your precious friends", Jace said nonchalantly.
The sudden news broke Brae out of her thoughts.
Without much thinking she yelled, ,"Okay, okay. Just don't hurt them, please."
Jace smiled genuinely because he knew this time, things would be different. He knew he didn't treat Brae the best in their two year relationship and he wanted to make things right.
This time he'll make sure that she feels so loved she won't want to leave him ever.
He kept smiling from just the thought of it.
'She will get pregnant in no time', he thought
While he was in his delusions, Brae was in hers.
'This man will get sick of me and get rid of me himself', she almost laughed aloud.
Both were simultaneously thinking,
'It will be his/her choice this time."
