We walk out onto the street. We've got 2 large camping rucksacks and 2 knifes each. One strapped to our belts and the other in our backpack. The rest of our packs are completely empty, ready to be filled with clothes and other essentials. We don't know how we're going to live or where. It doesn't make sense. what does a human do in this situation? Are me and Luna just going to live it out here until we die along with the rest of the human race (- if anyone else is left)? How will this work? I'm so confused. Luna seems to sense my discomfort and brushes my hand reassuringly. "it's so weird, isn't it?" she says, looking around, her beautiful hair shining in the sun. We both start to head to the shopping mall, our thoughts in sync.
When we arrive at the once colourful and loud building we pick out some clothes, practical rather than pretty. we try to pick the most comfortable shoes possible and then Luna spots some lightweight, body heat reflecting sleeping bags, we grab those too. "This is so creepy" Luna remarks as we leave. A small shiver goes down my spine as I look around. I 100% agree, although I don't voice my worries. A stabbing pain goes through my head and travels down my body to the tips of my toes. I flinch because that familar felling is back, the one I've ignored for the majority of the life. It's my other half trying to take control. "Shit" I hear Luna whisper and turn to her. She's looking at me with a knowing look in her eyes. "its-"
"no, I'll be fine" I quickly brush her off. This has happened before with her. I can't remember what I did. But I Know I hurt her. I hurt her real bad, I'll never let him take control again. another stab of pain penetrates my head and it feels like a white hot iron being stamped into my brain. 'Let me in' he whispers, as if he was person standing right beside me. no, I remind myself, he's in my head. Not real. He's feeding off of my fatigue, hunger and frustration. "can we stop here?" My voice wavers as I try to focus all my willpower on not showing weakness to him. "sure" replies Luna in a worried tone. 'Let me in, your tired, rest, I'll take over, let me have a go' he probes into my thoughts, drawing the despair and hopelessness that I've been feeling for the last 48 hours to the front of my conscience. I glance over to Luna. The moment she lay down, she fell asleep. And for a second. 1 second. 1 bloody second, I hesitate, and that's when he pounces. This thing, this out of body thing that whispers maligned though and discouragements In my ear 24/7, this thing that only I can feel and hear, is now inside of me, probing and hitting me in the places it'll hurt the most, battling me. Internally. my head feels like it's being split in 2. My left hand reaches for the knife on my belt but jerks back again. 'kill her'
'no I cant'
2 internal voices scream at each other.
