"You should just hit him with your knife," I joked to Carla.
"I think that is called stabbing Daisy," Carter laughed along.
Carla took her knife out and unfolded it, twiddling with it in her hands.
Tobias sat silently for the last hour, he barely breathed a word. I didn't was to be near him ever since Carla said he was lying. Did I trust her more than my own boyfriend? I glanced over at him, he was tightened and seemed extremely uncomfortable.
"Tobias," I whispered at him while everyone else was engaging in another conversation.
He looked over at me, tears threatening to pour out of his eyes.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
He didn't answer but rather just blankly stared at me.
"Tobias?" I asked a little louder.
"Daisy can I speak with you?" Carla asked from across the table.
She was standing, holding her knife in her hand.
I nodded and walked over to her, making sure to keep my head looking down.
"Walk with me," Carla insisted as she turned her back and started walking around the carnival.
"Can you tell me something about Tobias?" Carla asked.
"Yeah sure, what do you want to know?"
"Has he ever let you read him?" Carla asked genuinely.
I thought for a second and then looked over at her, she was looking at me with an expecting look.
"No," I answered, "He let's me show him stuff but he doesn't let me read him."
"Has Tobias ever talked about his parents?" Carla asked.
"I live with them," I answered.
Carla went silent, "Have you ever talked to them about me?"
Why was she asking?
"A little but not that I knew you."
"And have they talked about me?"
"Why?"
"Just please answer the question Daisy. You're not in any trouble."
"Are they in trouble?"
"I have suspicions and I just want them verified."
"They've talked about you before, they don't like you too much."
Carla swallowed hard and then nodded.
"What's wrong?"
"Its fine Daisy, nothing to worry about."
"No Carla, you're lying to me," I insisted. I stopped in my tracks and stared right at her. She stopped too and faced me, "Tell me what is going on, I can help."
"Tobias is-" she started. Carla stopped herself and slowly shut her eyes. A few seconds later she fell to the ground shaking.
Carter was the first to run over, shoving me at least thirty feet from Carla. He was angry and I could tell. Kathy and Madelyn ran over, aiming their energy and concussive power balls at me. I was sitting on the ground, extremely confused at the situation. Did they think I did that to Carla? I'd never hurt Carla, Tobias and Carla are the only family I have.
A beautiful blonde girl with one brown eye and a blue eye, sporting white wings, and carrying a white bow ran over. She looked familiar but I'd never seen her before. She was wearing a white shirt and black leggings. She had her bow pulled back and an arrow ready to fire into me. Madelyn and Kathy did not look even the slightest bit concerned about the new person.
"Carla come on, wake up!" Carter painfully yelled. A crowd started to gather, murmuring about being worried about Carla.
"Don't move," the blonde girl growled at me.
She turned and ran to Carla's side, throwing the bow to the side.
"Mom!" She cried as she started shaking Carla.
"Rachel what's going on with her?" Carter asked.
Rachel?
"I dont know but for some reason she's dying."
Dying? Carla's dying?
"Carla can't die, how is this even possible?" Hannah asked, half crying.
Carter looked over at me with a sad look. I instantly felt all the pain he was feeling and instantly started crying. How was I able to feel his pain all the way over here? I could physically feel the pain in his chest as he watched her die slowly.
"Quick get some bandages!" Rachel screamed as she started frantically holding parts of Carla.
Carter raced over to me. Grabbing me by my neck and shoving me into the metal machine behind me. He held me there for a second. A tear ran down his face.
"Fix it," he growled.
"I didn't do it," I whispered.
Carter looked at me eyes for a second. Going back and forth between the two of them. He was deciding whether to believe me.
"I didn't do it Carter," I whispered again.
He dropped me and raced back over to Carla. I slowly walked over to her and the closer I got, the worse it looked.
Carla was bleeding without wounds. Blood was pouring out of every pore on her body.
"What the-" I started.
"Daisy, you need to go get Tobias over here now," the blonde girl ordered me in a stern voice.
I immediately looked to where everyone was sitting, Tobias was nowhere to be seen.
"Where'd he go?" I asked myself.
I felt Carter's anger hit me like a train. I shut the connection off before I started acting in his anger.
I looked to see Carter's eyes showing little flickers of lightning.
"Carter?" I softly asked.
He looked up to me, a blank expression spread across his face.
"Carter, take a deep breath," the blonde girl said softly without looking up from Carla, "Mom needs you right now and you need to focus on her not Tobias."
"I knew he wasn't human," Carter mumbled, "I should've told Carla when I had the chance."
I looked dumbfounded at the two of them as they talked. My eyes widened as I realized who had done this and what Carla was trying to tell me.
"She already knew."
