Chapter 24 - Scornful

The age of Mr. Nam's partner appeared to be around early twenties, and the age difference between the two was akin to a father and a daughter.

However, no one was particularly surprised or commented on it for it was common in their social circle. At times, influence and money mattered more than outer looks, character, and age.

His partner for tonight was smiling and trying to get in a conversation with a group of handsome youths. One could easily guess the intention and mock behind Minjae's words.

Miyeon noticed how Mr. Nam's jaws were clenched and his fist was tightened noticing the scene. Having Minjae point it out was humiliating, and the smile upon his face stiffened.

Oh Miyeon put in her best effort in order to not let a chuckle escape from her mouth.

With the friendly expression on his face becoming more forced, Mr. Nam spoke out, "I'll go and keep her company then. The time with you was pleasant."

Lee Minjae nodded before the man turned his back on them and began to walk towards his partner for the day.

When the man took two steps forward, Lee Minjae let out a chuckle, and seeing how Mr. Nam's steps halted for a second, Miyeon assumed that he had heard the chuckles as well.

"Did you see how he was running away?" Minjae questioned— the corner of his eyes crinkling up to display his amusement.

"The two of you were going along well back then though," she pointed out, "One would easily take you to be close acquaintances."

Raising his hand, he ran his hand through his hair and vocalised, "Well, this is all part of my talent."

Placing on a nonchalant expression, she ran her eyes through the people in front of her and spoke out, "I thought you will be taking me to somewhere more thrilling; this is just boring and dull."

"Father said that he will be unfreezing my card if I attend this," he said, "I was in need of a partner who would not cling to me later on, and you were the best person for it. Moreover, don't you think that Bohyun will be humiliated more this way."

A sigh left Oh Miyeon's mouth, and the displeasure she currently went through could be easily perceived through her features. This place was a real torture to her, and although she should be happy about being able to get back at Bohyun, she felt no such emotions.

This place made her wary of every second and every glance she received, rendering her unable to feel any sort of enjoyment.

There was a growing fear within her on what if she was recognized by someone, and this made her unable to stay calm. Her heart beat rapidly within her chest while anxiety began to rise within her.

Although she hated herself for being this weak towards her past, there was nothing she was able to do about it. Those scornful gazes was really frightening to Miyeon, and she desired to never be under them.
