Chapter 10 - Fingerprints

I was all alone in the dark after she left. I expected to see spirits in the morgue, but there was none. I did sense an enormous energy fluctuation at a specific area in the hospital on the way to the morgue. Faintly recalling, seeing a bright warm light at a specific part of the hospital annex. Now that it is just me in this cold empty room, it probably is a good time to sneak around. Yet I hesitated to explore partly because I did not want to lose sight of my body. In addition, I felt oddly weak and drained for unknown reasons. Was it because there are no humans or life in the area to sustain my energy? That could not be the reason.

Tired, I rested on the floor and closed my eyes. Even though I wanted to lay on the cold hard floor, I simply hover above the floor. I felt restless amidst the familiar darkness.

My spirit senses heightened as I emptied my thoughts. Subsequently, my mind (if you can even call it a mind) started to visualise lines spreading from me. The lines gradually converged with other lines in the room. And that was when I knew, I was not that alone after all. That there was something in here that I could not explain.

In the areas that our lines form a convergence, were shinning spikes of energy. Should I move to where the spots are? My curiosity wanted to but my senses told me not to. I am not sure if I will be able to return to the room if I leave, nor am I confident that my energy would not dissipate if I remain where I am.

In the end, I decided to move closer to one of the converged point near the door. Just to check if it is the work of a fellow spirit. As I took steps towards it, I felt that there was an exchange of energy. Information flowed through me, I felt connected and naked. I took a step closer, inching forward to grasp the energy for myself. Yet, a great force repelled me, challenging my efforts.

"Almost there", I muttered under my breath, fingers almost touching the shining ball of energy. A sudden flash of light overcame me and the ball of energy forced itself into my soul, throwing me off balance - sending me into the air!

My limbs felt numbed, tired... I collapsed. Hitting against the hard floor for the first time.

"Yes, Meifung. This is definitely an unusual case."

"Yup, this guy has no fingerprints. All he has is an identification card. Unfortunately, we do not have his dental record or dna record. I suspect foul play."

When I opened my eyes, I could see the two ladies examining my body and a screen in front of me in mid air, "Level up successful. Level 1 poltergeist."
