Chapter 6 - Humans

A young man wearing a blue-cheetah pelt is walking among a horde of animals traveling towards the black lake. The animals seem to be in a spell that prevents them from killing each other according to the laws of the jungle. The man feels his feet touching the warm sand and suddenly his heart fills with anticipation. Will he finally meet people like him?

In the bottom of his heart, he knows that humans are vile creatures that incur dread more than excitement, but loneliness is an incurable illness all men dread more than any vile creature.

The cluster advances without tire until comes to view an expansion of a shiny black liquid. The borders of the lake couldn't be seen and the stunned man even starts to doubt whether he is looking at the sea instead of a lake.

A while later, he approaches the lake where all the animals had gone to drink and crouches down to scrutinize the water.

Carefully, he sticks a finger in the water with the intention to taste it or smell it.

Before he can retract his hand, his vision turns white, and he suddenly gets transported into an open space of white.

Too shocked to move, he looks up and sees a woman floating in the air. Her hair is black and shiny similar to the lake he was standing by before. Her skin is like porcelain and her hair is tied in a Faji hairstyle with a golden nine-tailed phoenix hairpin. The lady's black robes float freely as if wind was constantly blowing on them and her countenance is cold and aloof as she gazes at him from above.

The man tries to stand but finds he cannot budge. A bit alarmed, he tries to speak but nothing comes out of his mouth. Very alarmed now, he glares at the fairy-like lady with apprehension and annoyance.

The lady doesn't speak for a long time before she opens her pearly mouth to utter a single sentence:

"Do you wish to cross this lake?"

The man is first taken aback by the sudden question, before he slowly nods his head with great difficulty. Suddenly, his chest bursts in pain, and he feels a sweet sensation coming from his throat. Blood spills out of his mouth as he coughs painfully and desperately tries to draw in oxygen into his lungs.

He doesn't notice that the blood starts flowing on its own in the white space to form a weird shape similar to Chinese characters: Hēidòng (黑洞), before promptly disappearing.

The man finally feels his chest pain easing up and tries to look up at the woman again, only to find out that the scenery has gone back to normal. He feels like he is in a dream as he stands up and looks around him for anything unusual.

He suddenly gets the urge to drink the water, but resists as much as he can. Something tells him that if he swallows this black liquid, he will feel a pain similar to when he ate that accursed fruit.

He doesn't know why, but he steps into the water unconsciously, But his foot doesn't sink inside the lake like it should. He simply continues to walk as if he was on land without reacting, as if it was normal.

The lone human continues to walk as the wind blows into his ears, before him is only water. The man seems to hear some voices in the wind. They seem to repeat the same thing over and over again as if to hypnotize him.

"Ye Mu..."

It whispers into his ear for what seems like ages, until he finally stops walking. Before him stands a giant wall. Behind that wall should be a human city. The night sky is filled with stars except for one single patch of darkness in the distance. He doesn't stop to question it as he advances towards the wall. He will finally be able to get suitable clothes and a nice meal.
