For an answer, Feanor pilled her away from the dance floor and marched towards the table at the far end. He took two glasses off the tray from a waiter, one of which he pushed into her startled arms. He then plonked her down at the table and sat across from her.
"First of all, I am really sorry. I shouldn't have reacted like that. I am going to tell you something and I want you to listen."
Idril was alarmed by now. She could only nod.
"Idril, you will hear a lot of things from lot of people about me. Especially, now that we are with my family but I want you to remember, we all have a past, right? Idril you have a past, I have a past. And sometimes when we are younger, we act foolishly. And sometimes that foolishness affects a lot of important aspects of one's life. We try to overcome that. Its not fair when someone tries to undo all that work, is it? Idril, you understand what I am saying, right?"
"Frankly, I am lost." was Idril's answer. She was bemused, not only by what he was saying, but mostly by Feanor's behaviour.
Feanor took a deep breath and continued.
"Kate is one such person from my past. We did some crazy stuff which turned out to be destructive and eventually we figured out that we were totally wrong for each other."
"What is big deal about it Feanor? There are lots of people with affairs which break. Why are you so sensitive about Kate?" Idril cried in frustration.
Feanor shook his head. "Because our stupidity got our families involved. And I paid a huge price for it. And although I moved on, Kate didn't. I want to warn you about her. Don't talk to her. She will definitely try to ruin this thing between us."
Idril stopped him. "Wait, what do you mean by she didn't move on? Do you mean she still loves you or something? Is she still hung up about you?"
"No, that is not what I meant." He emphasized on the NOT. "What I meant was, she still kind of holds some grudges against me." Feanor answered hesitatingly.
"Why?"
"Because in her mind I did her wrong. But it is all in her mind. None of it is true."
Idril stood up in frustration. "Oh, I am tired of the secret. Just tell me what happened, Fea."
Feanor stilled. Idril asked irritatingly, "What?"
"You called me 'Fae'.You have never called me that before." Feanor was looking at her funnily.
"Yes, well, I did. So what are you tell me about you and Kate or what? The way you are behaving feels as if you two murdered somebody."
"No. No murder." Feanor sighed. "Listen, promise me Idril, that you will stay away from Kate and that if you hear anything from anyone about me, you will come to me first?"
