The birds are dying from the black fire coming from the tree. The once red crystals have turned blue creating a force field around the foundations of the tree restricting and reflecting the birds from its boarder. Dark magic. It has bought us a little time. Trika descends into the pit, hundreds of wolves with him. He gathers around Karina. He puts her arms on her shoulders squeezing her ever so gently putting a grip on her, and eyes tired but hungry for more. I get up off the floor holding my stomach trying to put as much pressure in it as possible and limp over to her. We have all circled around her and the realisation washes over her face and she begins to struggle against trikas grip. But her eyes never left mine.
"Don't do this Damien! You're hurt, Go!" She says her eyes locked on mine.
"Trika, Drake, what are you doing tell
Him!" Her voice is like knives in my soul, she is scared, not for herself, for me. She looks at me and suddenly to see her like that the air has been sucked out of my lungs. I can't breathe, I don't want to let her go. Her voice is in pain, she is in pain. And I know it's me who caused it.
"Please we can do this together!" I know she means it, she leans closer and somehow gets out of Trikas grip and wraps her arms around me. She is holding on so tight, but she is shaking with fear.
"don't leave me..don't leave us." She whispers in between her shattered breaths. I wrap my arms around her waist, and hold her so tight I close my eyes.
"I'm not leaving you. I never will. We are bound remember." There is too much suffering. Today should be a day of mourning as Ryan is dead, Isla is dead, Lavira is a traitor, but right now she is scared to lose me. My death will shatter her, she is barely holding it in. "You are the Queen of Valtor now, your people need you."
"But I need YOU!" Her voice shatters and her lips quiver.
"I'm a part of you. Forever remember!" I try and plead with her. But all she does is look at me with absolute transparency.
"What do we do my Queen?" Trika asks.
"Find Lavria and bring her to the castle, and hold her there till we get there, I'll deal with her , personally!" Trika sends off a bunch of wolves smelling the grounds hoping to find a trace of lavria. With that, the ground around the tree shakes and the shakes with pain. A final blast from the tree threw my mother to the floor. The tree was impenetrable to her. Slowly she got up, and made her way to the centre of the grounds wiping the blood from her lip, the birds flocked around her and with a flick of her wrist disappeared, vanished within the air. I could see in her face she looked completely Defeated, she looked to run away, but she turned to face Karina. And the smile I knew all too well, crept back on her face.
"Wow, I can hear your baby's heart, it's beating." She says. Karina doesn't reply, she takes a hold of me. "It's so new and fragile...I could just snap it in two." Karina shrieked. Pain throbbed as she shrieked in absolute pain. She dropped to the floor cradling her stomach squealing, like she was being burned from the inside. Squealing and pleading "STOP PLEASE STOP!" She shrieked, tears rushes from her eyes as her body writhed in the unspeakable pain.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING!" Drake says as he drops next to her putting his hand on her forehead.
"Damien, if you want to save your child from being burnt inside your wife's womb, you will come with me." My mother... Karina's shrieks sent electric shocks to my veins and my blood curled hearing her cry out like that. She rolled on the floor, barely breathing trying to handle the pain, blood started to pour from her mouth as she spat it careful not to choke on it. She could barely breathe, she was in so much pain, there was no time to react to it anymore, her eyes rolled to the back of her head as her body radiated with and vibrated. I tried to hold her hand, but her body was so cold, but her stomach was scorching. Drake looked at me with pleading eyes, he was scared. Her spasms started to die out and She wasn't moving. I wouldn't watch her die.
"ENOUGH! ENOUGH I'll go with you! I'll go." I looked to her and she turned away from my gaze with her but I saw her eyes gleam. I looked back over to Karina and slowly, Karina's body began to relax. Her body regained consciousness. She groaned, so quietly only I could hear, she needs rest. Looking at her, my dark angel. I won't hurt her anymore. She needs to be away from me. I've only ever caused her pain. And I no longer will be the cause of her misfortune. I love her so much, that the thought of losing her, makes me dizzy; sick to my soul. Just watching that, i felt the darkness swarm me. I need to figure this out. I need to beat andreya, but Karina CANNOT be in the fallout for my mistakes. She cannot be used against me, because I would offer the world for her safety. I know what I have to do, and I will do it. But She can't be used against me. We need to be away from each other until this problem is dealt with. And as much as she'll hate me for this, it has to be done. I start to get up but I feel something grab my hand.
"Don't go!" She says. She sits up. She is holding on so tight to my hand. I can't hold myself anymore i drop down and kiss her gently on the lips. She is weak, she needs to rest. I stroke her hair and look deep into her solemn eyes.
"I'll be back, I promise." I whisper.
"No more promises you can't keep," she stutters, "I can't lose you too." She holds me tighter.
"You know I've loved you my whole life Karina, only I didn't know it was you I was loving. I have always had this feeling inside me that I was meant for something - and It wasn't to destroy darkness. After meeting you, I knew I was meant to love you - protect you, and now our family. I am doing this to protect you-"
"I don't need your protection-"
"Please don't do this Karina-"
"NO STOP! If you leave I'll- I'll never forgive you." I've hurt her. Deeply. I'm breaking.
"My beloved, you are the greatest thing in my life and it breaks my heart to see that you are hurt. And I hate knowing that I have upset you. The last thing I want to do is hurt your feelings and make you feel sadness and anger. I wish that I could always see your smile and hear your laughter. Your happiness means the world to me. You deserve so much better and happiness. I am so sorry. Please forgive me, and I hope that I can prove that I mean it when I say that I am sorry."
"Damien, that woman is not your mother, what do you think she wants you for?! Think about it!" She wasn't wrong. Something isn't right. I looked over to my mother and she is waiting patiently. I need to play her game. There is a bigger one afoot. The tree failed. But she always has a back up plan.
"Until the moment when we are reunited once again" I take off my binder and slip off the locket piece (The locket that Lavria gave me on my wedding night and the ring she gave Karina) and I place it in Karina's hand. I then take off her ring and bind it to the string of the locket and place it around my neck.
"This is the symbol of our bond. Just because we are not together, doesn't mean I'm not with you. I'm a part of you."
"Damien, I'll never forgive you if you do this." She is serious. I place one last kiss on her lips, and then start to pull away from her.
"Damien" I hear drake say. I look to him and he bows his head to me. "King Damien, we will await your return. Be safe." He says to me.
"Take care of her drake. Take care of them." Without another second I limp over to the monster I once called my mother. I can hear Karina's screams after me calling my name begging me to stop. She is everything I have. No amount of tears will fill the hole imprinted upon me. I will have to walk this road alone, but to me that's not even the saddest part. We didn't even say goodbye. I reached my mother, she took my hand, and everything went black. I was gone. And I don't know for how long, or for what reason I was so important.
Im SO SORRY for thelong break I've been going through some difficulty as I've been struggling with college. But I'm BACK! And so is Karina and Damien's pretty messed up story.
Consider this the start of a Volume 2 with new plots and twists and tales to tell!
