Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 ~ The Folder ~

"Hey Ash." said Iris Crusher. Iris is my best friend. She has blonde hair and greenish blue eyes. Iris is 17 and taller than me but, not by much. Oh wait, you don't know who I am. I'm Ashlyn Martinez. I have auburn/brown hair and people say my eyes are weird. My eyes are a very ice like silver. I'm an only child, well at least I think I am. I'm 18 but Iris acts older than me sometimes, yet she isnt. I promise.

See, I found this folder while cleaning the office room, filled with a few papers. In the folder there were 2 birth certificates and 3 or 4 letters. The first birth certificate was mine but the second one belonged to someone named Ashtyn Martinez. Her birth certificate was almost identical to mine the only difference was the name. The letters were from Ashtyn and I don't think I should open them. But I wonder.... who is Ashtyn?

I showed the folder to Iris and she was just as confused as I was. "Should I ask my parents about the folder?" I asked Iris. "What if you get in trouble for snooping around in your parent's stuff?" Iris replied. "Well I don't want to get in trouble but I want to know the truth about this... Ashtyn!" I answered.

I wanted to know the truth but I was afraid that it might not be a good one. Do I have a sister? Would my parents be mad if I asked them? Could I ever meet...Ashtyn?

"Are you sure you want to talk to your parents about the folder?" asked Iris. "If I want answers, I'll have to ask them because I don't want to live knowing that I might have a sister. You know I have always wanted a sibling..." I responded. "Well then, lets go get some answers!" Iris said anxiously.

I crept into the living room where my parents were both reading on the couch, momma her favorite book and papa the newspaper. "Hey momma can I ask you a question?" I asked. "What's wrong dear?" asked momma as she closed her book. "Are you alright darling?" papa asked putting down the newspaper. "I'm perfectly fine, but I do have a question that you both might want to listen to!" I replied with a little sass. "Would you like to tell me who Ashtyn is and why you are hiding the letters she wrote and her birth certificate from me?" I said as I slammed the folder down on the coffee table in front of them with enough force to break it in half.

My parents were in shock at what I was asking. They didn't know how to answer my questions. I looked back at Iris for support or for her to say anything but she kept quiet and stood against the wall with her arms folded in front of her. Finally one of them spoke up, "Well Ashtyn is your twin sister and both of you are, well unique. The only reason she isn't here now is because-" momma started saying until papa interrupted "We can't tell her here remember, it's supposed to be a secret. We also can't tell her." papa said while pointing at Iris.

"It's fine I can leave, I probably need to go home anyway." Iris quickly said as she stepped away from the wall and gathered her things. "No, if you're telling me then you're gonna tell her too." I replied quickly before Iris could leave. My parents were startled by my out burst and I continued. "She is my best friend, she deserves to know just as much as I do. I would probably just tell her after you tell me anyway so why not make it easier on the both of us." I continued.

"Fine but we need both of you to follow us or we can't tell either of you." papa said standing up quickly. Momma started hurrying us towards a closet in the hallway. "Why are we going to a closet?" I asked.

"Be patient! You will have to wait and see!"
