"You, the apprentice wizard Mallark descend the cold stone steps, your footfalls..."
Clatter Clatter
The dice sound out loudly, nearly breaking the gloomy yet exiting atmosphere that my best friend in the world, Merit, has built up.
"Loudly alerting the skeletons inside!"
He says in an all too cheery voice. Bastard, always trying to kill his adventurers.
"Fuck"
I say and sigh. A good long one too, worthy of a WIZARD.
"Alright then... Do I see how close they are together?"
"Yep, they're all emerging from a convoluted bone pile, it'll take a couple seconds to untangle themselves from each other"
And I smile, This is PERFECT.
"I cast Ice Knife at the group of skeletons"
He blinks, stunned, as if the possibility never came to him. It took him a few second to get back into the groove. Although he did look a bit annoyed
"Fine then"
Clatter Clatter
And he stares in amazement at the dice.
"What is it?" and I smile already knowing the answer
"You rolled a-"
BOOM!
The room shakes wildly, the ground trembling, figurines falling off shelves and books crashing to the ground. Merit and I stand up, he looks fearful and confused, I am too.
"Edward is this some kinda earthquake?"
He looks at me, confused and hoping for an answer. We may be nerds but when worst comes to worst we both know between the two of us who's smarter here. But this time I have no answer and I'm just as fucking afraid as he is. I'm goddamned terrified of the concept of death and I'm NOT going to go out in some random disaster. But I've got to put on a strong face, at least for my friend.
"Yeah, almost certainly" I say in the most confident voice I can "What we need to do now is take cover under this table" and I duck under it "It's safer under here, the table is solid wood and should protect us from falling plaster and broken windows"
And he nods along satisfied with the answer and as fast as he can ducks under the table. But outside it sounds... Terrible. Loud explosions, crashes, sirens and horns. The wind howling outside and the ground itself breaking beneath out feet. It looks like hell out there.
And then comes the lighting.
The lightning falls from the heavens like an angry gods wrath. It nearly blinds me with the suddenness of it, flashing before my eyes. I turn away quickly but in my vision I still see a great white pillar of light in my eyes wherever I look. And then, everything goes white, absolutely completely white. And it's beautiful. But it's leaving, leaving ME AND I WONT LET IT GO! I pull as desperately as I can with my will for the light to stay in me. And then everything goes dark. And my last thoughts before drifting off were
Why does this darkness feel so bright?
