Chapter 1 - p r o l o g u e

p r o l o g u e

His fingers dug into her flesh, imprinting his hand on her wrist as he dragged her out of the party. The deafening music fading away the further they got from the house.

"What the fuck Beatrice?"

She flinched at blatant use of her real name, she had never really gotten used to it despite him refusing to call her the nickname she preferred.

There was once a time that she would've flinched at the harsh tone of his voice but now, she couldn't care less. She crossed her arms over her chest, a look of defiance gleaming in her eyes and a low smirk tugging at her lips.

"What's the fucking matter, Evans"

Her tone sickly sweet as she glared at him, her sudden change made him take a step back but it wasn't enough to extinguish the anger coursing through his veins.

"You really have the audacity to ask me that after you threw yourself at him!"

He exclaimed, spit flying out of his mouth, his nostrils flaring while she only looked back at him with an uninterested look in her eye.

"Yeah, so?"

The lack of interest she had almost threw him off guard. It was only two days ago when she looked at him like he painted the moon and created the stars but right now she looked at him like she looked at them, like he's just another name on her list of many.

"I thought we we-"

"You thought wrong Evans. You're not my boyfriend. I can't even call you my friend." She pointed out which left him silent.

He opened his mouth t defend himself only to be stopped by her hands shoving him backward and despite her smaller size, it made him take a step back.

"I'm just your play thing, right?" She shoved him again

"Let's see how long the great and perfect Evans can string the school's bitch along" She pushed him again, her voice getting louder with every word.

"Let's see how pathetic she can be!" She shouted sending one last shove, her eyes filled with unshed tears as she gripped the collar of his shirt, her knuckles whitening with the pressure.

"Well you fucking got what you wanted Evans. I'm a fucking mess"

"Beatrice-"

"Don't fucking call me that! You lost that right so long ago I didn't even realize it" She scoffed as he looked at her with a look of confusion.

"I don't understand."

"You don't have to understand anything. Just. Leave. Me. Alone"

She sent him one final glare, any trace of her feelings for him well hidden by the anger coursing through her veins, she smirked bitterly at him before turning back to the direction of the party.

She kept her gaze on the house, trying hard not to look back knowing the moment she did, she would be running back into this waiting arms and she was tired of running towards the direction that caused her pain.

She wouldn't be coming back this time.

And it was at that moment that he truly lost her.
