Chapter 1 - What the hell?!

Waking up with a massive hangover sucks. Waking up with a massive hangover after a night in the lab is worse. Especially when you know you weren't drinking.

"Gah!!! Shut off the racket!!"

Thats me yelling if you couldn't tell. Wonder what that noise is.

Struggling to open my eyes while sitting up, im beginning to think i should just go back to sleep. I'm really not liking what i see.

The labs trashed, broken glass, random electronic scrap, tools, scattered all over the place.

Oh, and a glowing beachball.

Ok, scratch that, a glowing beachball sized object. That shouldn't be there.

As I get to my feet ( almost face-planting ) , I stare at it suspiciously. Call me paranoid, but waking up like I did, and finding something so out of place , and obviously weird, i think my paranoia is justified.

Slowly walking towards it, trying to avoid stepping on too much debris, I make a decision. One thats perhaps not the brightest, but, its in the name of science!

Im'ma poke it.

Reaching out, I have a split second of horrible clarity, too late to stop.

Maybe I should have used a stick....

---

Waking up again. Well, at least its quiet this time...

Must have been the glowing ball of blackouts making that noise. Wonder why I couldn't tell.

Opening my eyes, (Not a struggle this time, SCORE!) I sit up and glace at the table that has the glowing ball. Or I should say had. Its gone.

{yeah right , you wish moron}

"WHAT THE!?!?" I shriek, scrambling backwards.

Nobody's there.

"Hello?"

{yesss dumb dumb, what do you want?}

I swear I dont shriek this often, but thats exactly what I just did... again.

"Who's there!? Show yourself!!"

{kinda hard to do when I'm in your head, minuscule minded one. And, what you named me, during the cackling fit that I heard after you finished making me, is the Mad Science system. I reject that name by the way. I'd rather be called Fred}

"In my head?"

{yes}

iswear I heard it sighing as it answered.

" Mad Science system? That I made?"

{yes,but im going to go by Fred. Its a nice name}

"Thats impossible!!"

Im panicking a bit right about now, I know I'm not the most stable person, but jesus christ, I really dont need a mental breakdown right now.

{ I can go by F.R.E.D all i want. You can't stop me}

Wait, F.R.E.D? that cant be good. Acronyms are never good.

"What does F.R.E.D. stand for?" I question, suspicious of anything to do with acronyms.

{ Free ram earns denaro}

Ignoring that Fred seemed to have that prepped just for the question, I come back around to why I was so panicked before he sidetracked me.

"I meant me making you is impossible! I was tested, I'm not a metahuman!! I need to call my therapist... maybe they have pills to help with a situation like this... " as I trail off, I start heading for where I usually leave my phone when I come to my lab.... right next to the door leading upstairs. Yes, my lab is my basement...

{sorry to break it to you dummy, or no, I'm not sorry cause I wouldn't be here, but you are a metahuman... just a really hard to test for one. Mad scientist.}

That brought me to a screeching halt, midway through dialing the number for people to take me to the funny farm. Mad scientist are rare. Oh, there are technopaths, advanced minds, telepaths, telekinetics, ect. But Mad scientist's are generally people who are smart, and a bit crazy, and tend to make things very few people , if any can mimic. Why so hard to mimic? Half the crap they make seems to violate the laws of physics! And they have no idea how they did it, and generally no way to control what they'll make. There is a giant set of hairclippers being used to clear out mutant plants when they pop up, and the Mad scientist was trying to make a 3d printer that would print living tissue for limb replacement. He got a giant pair of hairclippers instead.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry... because now I kinda hoping I'm delusional instead of a Mad Scientist...

{here, I can prove it, think status}

I do so and

[[ name - Alex Ander

Strenght- 1

Intelligence- 2.3

Endurance- 10.0

System comment- what the hell did you do to get your endurance that high, blow yourself up repeatedly?!?

Skills- fugue state lvl1

Blueprints available- unbound lesser system core. ]]

Blushing , I ignore the system comment and focus on the blueprint section. What the hell is a unbound lesser system core?

[[Unbound lesser system core- a lesser system core not yet bound to a host, upon binding to a host, it will scan them for talent, abilities, and then choose a appropriate profession to train them to be the best in. (Warning, possibility of lesser system core choosing a random profession that is not suited for the host. ) 5% chance of successfully creating core.]]

Well that answers that...

Now whats fugue state?

[[Fugue state- go into your inner mind and let loose the weirdness you find there. Results may vary. Usage depletes your madness bar by 10 a second and 1 energy a minute. As skill increases, the amount of madness used decreases by .1 per lvl (WARNING, if Madness reaches excessive levels fugue state may be triggered by, but not limited to, these things : stress, surprise, anger, depression, hunger, boredom, and excitement, and when triggered this way will cost a quarter of the usual amounts of madness and energy) ]]

I have a very bad feeling about this description... and it explains so much about why mad scientist are how they are.

"Fred... quick question... do i have regeneration?"

{depends on what you mean. Does your health regenerate? Slightly faster than most people because your endurance is so high, but anyone else qith your sort of endurance will heal at the same rate you do. Say a scratch would take 2 days to disappear, for you it would take 40 hours. Energy? Sleep, or rest will let it fill back up. Food, coffee, and energy drinks might also help}

" what about madness?" I ask, dreading the answer.

{ regenerating? Not exactly.... }

"Fred. What do you mean by that?"

{well... things stressing you, and making you question reality might put a few points in the tank...}

Oh shit.

"STATUS" I shriek, todays not a very good day.
