Chapter 3 - Hunting

It has been a year since Sky had started staying in the harpy's colony. He was now familiar with their language, their habits and the hierarchy of the harpies.

He was finally ready to implement his plan to obtain the blood of the Harpy's God.

As he walked down the forest, some of the older harpies waved their hands with polite smiles, he was almost like a family to them now.

For the past year, Sky had never done things that harmed the Harpy colony. He would spend a total of six hours on learning the Harpy language and the way to pronounce the words.

He spends the other half of the day playing with the younger harpies and observing the actions of older ones.

Since all the harpies were female, they were attracted to his male scent, which made it easy for him to get along with them.

Today he made his way to the part where the harpy's hunter team was gathered, as he saw the hunter team a young harpy called out to him.

"What are you doing here Sky?" She asked blinking her innocent eyes. This harpy was the youngest hunter of the colony, and she was called 'Carnage'. Despite her cute and innocent look she was known for her savageness during the hunt.

Sky smiled at her, not answering he made made his way towards the captain of the hunting team.

When the captain saw Sky making his way towards her, she smiled freely and asked jokingly, "Sky! Do you want to join the hunt?"

This captain's name was 'Mey', she was the first Harpy Sky had met. She was still a guard when he first visited the colony, but during the year that passed she had raised in ranks rapidly before becoming the captain of the hunting team.

Sky had noticed this during his time in the colony, he made a plan accordingly to get the blood.

Mey never expected that Sky would actually nod his head, after all Sky was just a regular human in her eyes, he would die the moment he goes to a hunt.

But reality was different and Sky indeed nodded his head, Mey first dismissed it as a joke, but seeing Sky not leaving and also not talking, she knew he was being serious.

She looked into his eyes which did not hold any malice and scheming and nodded her head allowing him to join them in hunt.

[ He can learn to hunt this way, and who would dare attack a human protected by the higher monsters.]

Thinking of this and believing that Sky would be safe even in the most dangerous of situations due to higher monsters, she allowed him to come along.

.....

They were going to hunt a pack of wolves today, the winter was coming and they were preparing to hunt more food to hibernate the winter.

These wolves were the perfect prey to them, they were huge and had enough inside meat to sustain a harpy for a month.

The best part was that the wolves cannot fly making it easier for the harpies to swoop down and carry them away before ganging up and killing the lone wolf.

Mey stopped Sky when they were five kilometers away from the wolf's den, she looked at him gently, "You stay here with the others. We will bring the wolf to be hunted to this place directly."

Sky nodded and stayed back obediently, Mey flew along with a group of harpies towards the den. She had a slight smile on her face, she was happy that Sky was obedient.

Half a day passed with no activity, Sky was waiting with the left out harpies. These harpies were constantly on guard observing their surroundings each and every instant.

Only Sky and Carnage were carefree, Carnage was even more daring than Sky, as soon as Mey left with the group of harpies she made herself into Sky's arms and started sleeping on his lap.

Sky only smiled weakly at her behavior, Carnage was truly like a kid, she was cute and innocent but her only drawback was her ruthlessness towards her enemies.

As half the day passed there was finally a disturbance from the wolf's den. A group of wolves were howling towards the sky, one would find a group of harpies carrying a huge wolf in the sky if you see the direction of their howls.

As they heard the wolf's howls, the group of harpies in the place where Sky was present tensed even more, they constantly looked at their surroundings and looked at the knives in their hands, gripping them hard.

A lone wolf might damage them much, but if it attacks without a care for its life, it might take out at least two of the harpies with it.

So it was really important to be lucky and deal a fatal strike the moment the wolf drops down.

Carnage slowly opened her eyes, rubbed her cheek to Sky's thighs, as if it was a comfortable pillow.

She got up and took out a black knife from her pouch, as she held the knife she transformed rapidly from a innocent girl to a savage brute.

Mey and the group of harpies finally appeared above them, Mey looked down and finding them prepared, she nodded to the other harpies who were carrying the wolf with her.

One moment the wolf felt it's body floating in air, the next moment it started falling down rapidly, it howled in rage, not knowing wether this howl will be its last.

The harpies on the ground were even more tensed seeing the wolf dropped, in order to avoid the wolf turning into pieces from the fall which would dirty it's best parts, the height was just sufficient for the wolf to live from the fall.

Now it's their duty to end it properly. The moment wolf landed, the dust present on ground raised up. Making it harder for them to look clearly.

Carnage squinted her eyes looking through the dust, as her eyes looked at her target she moved like light, and swung her knife.

The harpies soon found three different shadows in the dust, as the dust settled they saw the three parts. One of the shadows was the little girl Carnage, the other two parts were the head of the wolf and the rest.

But Sky was looking at the black knife Carnage used to slash that wolf's head. A wolf usually had a very tough head, to be able to slash a wolf's head off was harder than killing it.

But this black knife slashed it like it was butter!

Carnage put the black knife inside her pouch and smiled at the other harpies who heaved a sigh of relief.

They were only tense because of the possibility of Carnage missing her target but luckily she had not missed.

Carnage ran towards sky and fell in his arms, she raised her head demanding a pat for her accomplishment, just like a kid.

Sky also patted her head, giving in to her. For some reason this little harpy was more attached to him than others.
