Invictus did not simply apply to narcissism over one's beauty. Any form of narcissism was taken into account.
As Sovereigns were being chosen by a world as the representative of that world's cultivation standard, it went without saying that all sovereigns were extremely narcissistic in some way. This was a trait that had been long ago confirmed by many a cultivator.
Solitary Sword Sovereigns were particularly narcissistic. Their love of solitude came from their deep-rooted narcissism, refusing to be associated with others. Modus had explained this trait to Adelda when she asked Modus why he had chosen Narcissus to be Will's first deity.
"Most mortals have a desire to fit it. To be 'normal' if you will. However, certain individuals are the complete opposite. These individuals prefer standing out, even going as far as to find being called abnormal a compliment. I am one such individual. They call me Modus the Mad, but I take that as a compliment because to me there is no advantage in being sane. All it means is that I am no different from the rest of the herbivores in the universe, ready to be screwed over by the carnivores watching from the top of the food chain.
Solitary Sword Sovereigns are extremists of this path of those that seek to become 'abnormal'. They see grouping with others to form crowds and trying to fit in as a sign of weakness and strongly believe that one can only truly be strong if one is able to achieve success alone.
If you look at Will's childhood, you will notice that he struggled to make friends. He only ever really had a handful of people he could properly call friends despite his well-polished social skills. He didn't mind and assumed it was because he was an extroverted introvert, but Will was actually looking down upon those who were part of interdependent social groups. Will subconsciously developed a sense of superiority over time and saw himself as much more intelligent and more mature than others his age, despite his intelligence only being above average at best.
This sense of superiority stems from his identity as a Natural Born Sovereign, and results in his entire mental fortitude resting upon his inner belief that he is superior to others, that he does not need others to succeed and that he is 'different' from the others.
With Invictus, this pride can be directly turned into divine power. Normally, even with a Contract of Equals, a deity actually chooses when and how they impart divine power to a mortal. But with Invictus, a mortal can directly convert their resolve into a small amount of divine power.
This means that even if Will's connection to Narcissus is blocked off for some reason, Will can still obtain divine power to fuel his abilities so long as his narcissistic resolve remains strong.
Narcissus does not have a particular element he leans toward. His only attribute is space. That means his divine power can fuel an ability of any element as every spell ability or technique occurs within space. Making him a perfect fit for Will. Will also has the Space Gate. Although this contract isn't enough to fully open it, Will's affinity with the Space Element has no doubt improved.
If my assumptions are correct, Will connecting to Narcissus will strengthen his Mind, Soul, his charm, grant him Invictus and improve Will's affinity with the space element."
Adelda was pleased by Modus' foresight, but she was stunned by a simple fact. Narcissus' weakest vessel was his physical body. He was a hunter and good with a bow, but he mostly battled by using illusions and his beauty to charm and hypnotize his opponents. There was no doubt that if Will was to contract Narcissus, he would become more handsome and gain some sort of charm abilities, but Adelda did not understand how that would be of help to Will at all. As far as she was concerned, Will had never tried to use illusions or anything of the sort. Thankfully, Modus explained everything to her in a manner she could understand.
"Solitary Sword Sovereigns are metal energy cultivators, my dear. The sword in their mind is far more important than the sword in their hand.
Or rather, to put it in a better way, 95% of a Solitary Sword Sword Sovereign's battle is in the mind, their hands are simply there to assist.
Narcissus severely underutilizes his illusions and charm-related skills. His mental vessel is abnormally strong even among deities. One could even say he is a mutated variant. This is why Zeus was even willing to adopt the lad because he simply had immense potential.
Unfortunately, Narcissus has never had much interest in battle and improving his battle-related skills. Thus he failed to reach the limit of his potential. This is less about talent and more to do with interest.
Will on the other hand is a Swordborn asura born with Bloodlust, the most slaughter-intensive form of intent in existence. If he were to couple that with Invictus and the mental energy skills of Solitary Sword Sovereigns, there may be a day when Will can cut his opponent's mind with only a simple gaze!
Of course, that day is still extremely far ahead for the young man, and he needs to extend his already depleted lifespan to survive long enough to reach that point, but you see where I am going with this."
Modus' explanation was the reason Adelda was interested in seeing Will's growth after his contract.
…
On the riverbank where ethereal energies intertwined within Fafnir's Grave, a pact was forged between a humble brown-skinned youth and the deity Narcissus.
Once, the young man had possessed a quiet handsomeness, his brown skin radiant under the embrace of celestial light. But as the divine energy of Narcissus permeated his being, a metamorphosis unfolded. His once-white hair shimmered like moonlight and complimented his well-proportioned form. Blue eyes, like sapphires reflecting the secrets of the cosmos, now radiated an irresistible, witty charm.
Clad in resplendent azure Daoist robes that seemed woven from the fabric of celestial skies, he stood with his katana at his side—an emblem of both elegance and lethal grace. The weapon, an extension of his newfound divine prowess, gleamed with an otherworldly light, resonating with the very essence of Narcissus' celestial energy.
The divine energy overflowed from him, an aura that enveloped him like a celestial cloak. In the ambient glow, he appeared as if a deity descended from the heavens, bathed in the radiance of Narcissus' divine grace. His once mortal features now mirrored the perfection of celestial beings, an embodiment of beauty that seemed to transcend the limits of mere humanity.
The observers be they male or female, found themselves momentarily entranced by his presence. His every gaze, laden with the arrogance bestowed by Narcissus, held the weight of pride and the appeal of love far beyond the reach of many.
As Will's new form was revealed, all the mortal observers revealed different reactions. Lisa, Giselle, Sophia and Alison were so entranced by Will's new form that they lost themselves entirely.
They forgot that they were in a battle with the man and stood still as if time itself had frozen!
