The next couple of weeks for Kiara flew by and before she knew it, she was going to be going to her first class in the morning. She already missed her parents and James severely, but she knew this is what she had been working towards her whole life. She was planning on flying back for Christmas anyways and that was only a few months away. For now, they were content with long phone calls.
As she opened her eyes the next morning, she grinned. Today was the first day of the rest of her life and she was ecstatic! She got out of bed, brushed her teeth, and got dressed. She had picked out her outfit the night before because it had to be perfect for her first day. She had decided on loose khaki-colored pants, a light blue polo shirt, and her Sperry shoes. She looked in the mirror and thought she looked very professional. Once she was content with her outfit and hair, she grabbed a muffin and headed out of the door.
As she closed her door behind her and turned, she felt herself run straight into something and started to fall backward. A big, strong arm wrapped around her waist to catch her. She looked up into bright emerald eyes and her mind was completely blank. Kiara didn't know what it was about those eyes, but she couldn't tear herself away.
"Hey, are you okay?", the eyes spoke. "Wait a minute. Eyes can't speak", Kiara thought to herself, which made her finally focus on who those beautiful eyes belonged to.
What she saw attached to those eyes was one of the most handsome men she had ever laid her eyes on in her entire life. He had a strong jawline, messy dark brown hair, nice lips, and a very worried intense look on his face.
"Are you okay?", he asked again. "I'm so sorry! I didn't see you there! Are you hurt anywhere?".
Kiara was in a daze.
She finally snapped out of it when he leaned in closer.
She gently pushed him away and said that she was fine. Looking at him now, he's even more beautiful. He looked to be about 6 feet tall, had muscles for days, broad shoulders, and a nice tan skin tone. He looked as if he should be on a runway in Italy right now instead of standing in front of her.
"Be careful, you might catch a fly", laughed the Greek God before her.
Apparently, Kiara's mouth had opened slightly when she got the full view of him. She hurriedly closed her mouth and felt her face burn as she looked away.
"I'm Kyle, and I'm really sorry I ran into you like that. Are you sure you're okay?".
Kiara finally looked back to him and promised she was fine and thanked him for not letting her fall.
"Haha, it was no problem really. Since you're okay, I really need to get to class. I'll see you around", Kyle said and was gone.
Kiara looked down at her watch and realized she was going to be late to her very first class if she didn't get going now. "Crap!", she thought and quickly left to get to her class.
As she walked in and took a seat, she couldn't help but feel as if someone was watching her. She slowly turned around and looked behind her and her stomach dropped. It was Kyle. He was sitting in the seat directly behind her.
"Hey! Would you look at that? Same class!", Kyle exclaimed.
"Yeah, same class", Kiara shyly replied. "Great, he's probably one of those loud annoying guys that like to be the class clown and he's sitting right behind me. Just my luck", thought Kiara.
The class started and the professor was hilarious! He was extremely laid back and very knowledgeable about the human body. His class was human anatomy and physiology, sort of. It was more like a refresher course for all of the med students. They had already learned this information from their previous college institutions. But he definitely made this refresher fun.
After class, Kyle caught up to Kiara and asked her to hold up.
"So, I never got your name earlier. What's your name?", Kyle asked.
A soft mumbled, "Kiara", came from her lips.
"I'm sorry, but what? Haha. I didn't catch that", laughed Kyle.
Kiara cleared her throat and answered more loudly and clearly, "My name is Kiara.".
"Oh, that's a pretty awesome name. So how did you like the class? That guy was hilarious! This is definitely starting out pretty great, am I right?", Kyle stated enthusiastically.
"Yeah, that class was definitely something else, that's for sure", Kiara giggled.
"What's your next class? Maybe we'll have the same class again! That would be legit, huh?", Kyle asked.
Kiara couldn't quite figure out why he was so friendly. The way he was acting didn't seem normal. How could anyone be that excited to see someone that they just met again? Especially her. She wasn't anything special. She was a plain Jane from a small one-horse town. What could this gorgeous man possibly want from her? A study buddy? Maybe a tutor? Those were the only possible explanations as to why he was being so nice to her. Just looking at him, the only thing they would have in common is being at the same med school.
"Are you okay? You're not going to faint or anything, are you?", Kyle asked with a concerned look on his face.
"What? No. Why would you think that?", Kiara replied.
"Well you zoned out hardcore and I wasn't sure if that was normal for you or if you were about to hit the floor", he stated as he shrugged.
"Oh, no. It's pretty normal for me to zone out. I get lost in my thoughts a lot", stated Kiara.
"Well, what were you thinking about then?"
"What?".
"You said you get lost in your thoughts and zone out, so what were you thinking about? I'm curious to know".
"Oh, it was nothing. Honest".
"Ha, okay, if you say so".
"Well, I guess I'll catch ya later, miss Kiara".
"Alright, see you later".
Kyle walked away and Kiara stared after him. Gosh, he's gorgeous! What a distraction. She felt her phone ringing and saw that James was calling her and felt instant guilt. She should not be admiring another man's looks when she has her own waiting for her at home. "What is wrong with me?", Kiara thought to herself, as she answered the phone.
"Hello?", answered Kiara.
"Hey beautiful! How are your classes going so far?", James inquired.
"So far so good", Kiara replied. "I've only been to one class so far though. The day's still young, haha. How's everything back home?"
"All's good on the home front. I just miss you", James sighed.
They talked for a few minutes more before Kiara had to head to her next class. She hung up and could only think of home and how much she missed James and her parents. "This is going to be a long semester", Kiara thought to herself.
Kiara headed into her next class and took a seat in the middle of the desks and got settled in. As she was pulling her pen and notebook out, she suddenly felt a presence next to her. She looked up and jumped and then had a sigh of relief. It was Kyle looking down at her.
Kyle smiles and said, "Hey stranger! Long time no see! Looks like we're in this class together, too! How sick is that?".
Kiara laughed and shook her head. This man was crazy. She asked where he was going to sit and he plopped down in the seat next to her.
"Well, right here of course. Where else would I sit?", Kyle said with a grin as he put his hands behind his head and leaned back in his chair.
Kiara smiled and said okay and realized she was checking him out again. If he was going to be in all of her classes, how was she going to pay attention? His good looks were a massive distraction and she couldn't help but stare.
"Oh boy", Kiara thought to her self. "This is going to be a long semester".
