Chapter 10 - Magic

Haruka opened the lock of the door to his apartment and entered.

"Sora, I'm back. I brought you a cake, do you want to eat it now?"

Haru asked, but he didn't receive his answer. He was wondering what Sora was doing. He walked inside and saw her studying in the living room. He smiled and caressed her head gently.

Sora didn't look at him as if trying to ignore him and said, "You're late."

"I'm sorry. I met an old friend earlier," Haruka said.

Sora raised her eyebrows and turned toward him."

"Old friend? Is it a girl?"

"Yeah."

Haruka nodded and didn't hide it.

"Who is it?" Sora asked.

"Utaha, do you remember her?" Haruka asked.

"Ah, that's one."

Sora nodded at him but suddenly felt a bit worried.

Haruka saw her expression was a bit strange, "What's wrong?"

Sora looked at him unsurely and asked, "Are you dating her?"

Haruka shook his head and said, "No, I'm not."

"Really?" Sora asked in a surprise expression.

Haruka nodded and said, "Yeah, we're only friends."

"Good, where is the cake?"

Sora's mood was better and she was in the mood to eat something sweet.

Looking at her reaction, Haru could only shake his head and caressed her head forcefully.

"Don't mess with my hair!!"

Sora tried to stop him and looked at him while raising her nose.

"Don't forget to clean your teeth before you sleep alright? I will be going back to my room."

Haru put the cake on the table and went back to his room since he wanted to try the magic knowledge which he had gotten from Yajima.

Sora smiled, looking at his back and took out the cake from the box. Eating her cake, she continued to study since she wanted to enter the same school as her brother next year.

---

Inside his room, Haru opened his smartphone and started to read about the introduction of magic that Yajima had shared on the "group chat".

Magic has been around for centuries. Every type of magic comes from The One Magic, the original source of all types of magic. Magic was once oppressed and feared but gradually became an everyday phenomenon.

"The One Magic?"

Haruka was unsure about this since he didn't fully remember about Fairy Tail.

The One Magic, even with its ambiguity over time, has its believers share common thoughts about it: that the source of all magic power is the emotional feeling of love.

"Love, eh?"

Haruka felt a bit cheesy when he thought about the source of magic. In the end, he didn't think much and continued to read.

Magic is not as a "miracle," but as the power to overcome "reasoning" stemming from "reasoning" itself, claiming that the "spirit" flows within magician and the "spirit" flows within natural connections and forms an embodiment.

Yajima also added that for this process to become a mage and thus for Mages to use Magic, a strong mentality and a lot of concentration is needed.

Employing any Magic drains Magic Power whether from the Mage or from an external source. There are two main types of Magic: Caster Type Magic and Holder Type Magic. Within these two there are many subcategories.

Haru understood that both Light Magic and Flat Magic that had been shared by Yajima were Caster Type Magic. He also understood that he needed magic power or else he couldn't use magic.

Continuing to read, he found out that only 10% of the population in the Fairy Tail could use magic and the rest was incapable of doing magic. He thought magic became even more interesting in his eyes. He continued to read to understand what the magic power was mentioned before.

Magic power is the energy that allows mages to employ magic, and it is composed of Ethernano. Every mage has a container inside their body that determines the limits of their magic power. In the case that it becomes empty, Ethernano comes from the atmosphere and enters the Mage's body: after a while, their magic power is returned to normal.

"Ethernano, hmm..."

Haruka understood that he needed Ethernano to do magic. He wanted to know what Ethernano itself was.

Ethernano is the term coined to name particles of Magic.

Ethernano dwells inside all living organisms and throughout the atmosphere. Nobody knows when Magic began, or how Ethernano originated.

"It is a very strange concept."

Haru scratched his head since the concept of Ethernano was quite ambiguous. He decided not to think very much about it since dumb people could also become magicians. In the end, the theory was nothing and he could only try it whether he could use magic or not.

There were a lot of stupid characters in Fairy Tail such as Natsu Dragnell.

Haru didn't think smart people would destroy various buildings during a mission no matter how many times someone had reminded him.

Haru also understood whether he could do magic or not it depended whether he had Ethernano or not. The simplest way for him to check whether he had it or not was to try whether he could use magic or not.

Looking at the magic instruction which Yajima had shared, Haru was wondering whether he should learn either "light magic" or "flat magic".

Light Magic is a Caster Magic that involves the usage of the light element. It is a magic in which the caster is able to manipulate and utilize light in various ways. Occasionally, a certain technique, usually involving the hands, is used to cast a Light spell. When used for offense, the Magic can take the form of a sphere-like object that can be ejected at the opponent or as a beam that can be blasted. Light can also be emitted from the caster's body; depending on the brightness or heat that the light emits, it can be capable enough to blind an enemy or cause the surroundings to explode. Light Magic can also be manifested for multiple usages in defense.

Flat Magic is a magic that is able to distort the body of the user's body structure and flatten it. This magic is especially convenient for stealthy purposes, such as hiding by sticking into the wall or passing through small spaces.

Haruka thought for a while and decided to use this magic first.
