Chapter 1 - Good Night

"Nova, go and get in bed." Mother smiled, her dimples appearing on the corners of her cheeks. "But mommy! Please tell me that story!" I protested. "Ah, you're so stubborn, just like your father. Alright get in bed and then I'll tell you your story."

"Yay!" I slid under the covers of my bed and waited for my mother to tell the story.

"A long, long time ago people lived on big green grassy meadows and lush forests. They had big houses and all went to school. You could travel from one side of the earth to the other in days."

I gasped, "Really?? Only days??" Such a thought was unthinkable! Did the people of the past own flying boats? "Yes, now stop interrupting me," Mother chuckled. I quieted down and listened to mother intently.

"Back then you could pick any flower you wanted and climb as many trees as you could. All the colors you can think of and even some you don't know exist, colored the world. The world was peaceful and the sky was blue. But most importantly little girls like you went to bed when their mother said so." Mother smiled sweetly and kissed the top of my head. Her eyes were filled with motherly love and affection.

"Mommy, can I have a flower tomorrow?" I asked. "Well of course darling! Your father and I have saved up enough money to buy you a pretty little flower just like you!" I giggled in glee. I was so happy I had never seen a flower up close nor had I owned my very own! filled with anticipation I said goodnight to my mother.

I struggled to sleep but eventually, the night wrapped me in its embrace and I slept soundly through the night.
