Sara pretended to be asleep even as he lowered her on the bed. She didn't know if he knew she was faking it or not. But she knew if she continued staying awake, he was not going to fall asleep and he really needed to rest.
He gently tucked her into the big bed. Sara felt guilty for stressing him. He had carried her in his arms through the flight of stairs. She had wanted to not agree and 'wake up' but she couldn't. She liked it there. Listening to his heartbeat, feeling his warmth. She didn't want to let go of such an opportunity. Luck might not allow her enjoy that again.
"Sara" She heard him whisper.
She was beginning to think he had known she was awake the entire time, and was about to open her eyes when he spoke again. "I hope you don't avoid me tomorrow." It was always a step forward and two steps backward with Sara. Whenever he was beginning to feel she was coming around, things automatically goes back to square one.
