Chapter 11 - Jek and Kora's first meeting (pt. 2)

Emili continues to stare out the window as she sweeps another spot over and over again. She sighs and mumbles the same things again and again.

Kora looks over to Emili and thinks to herself.

This won't do...She isn't making any progress. Oh no, she looks like she's about to knock over that dirty bucket of water--!

"E-Emili. How about you go outside look for that person? You seem to be really worried a-and I'm curious what he looks like!"

Emili hesitates. "But, I can't just leave you to do all the work alone..."

"It's fine! I actually already finished sweeping my part of the area. I'll be alright. My wounds don't hurt either! If I really feel unwell, I have Ken and Jek here for me anyways."

Emili looks down and starts thinking while hesitating. Then, she looks straight into Kora's eyes. "Just wait for me, okay? You don't have to do all my work. I'll come right back to finish my work after I find him."

Kora nods her head. After getting permission from Ken, who is in the kitchen, Emili leaves the bakery.

"Well then, I guess it's time to clean this place up too. "

As Kora is about to sweep, Jek pops out from the kitchen. "Hey, Kiddo! Need any help?"

"Mister Jek! You're done with the work in the kitchen?"

"Just call me Jek. And nah, we haven't even finished repairing half of the kitchen yet. Those Defus really are a pain. They're making me work so much, ugh."

Jek looks over to the part of the floor that Emili was sweeping.

"Kiddo...I'm not trying to be mean or anything but you really suck at cleaning..."

"I didn't sweep this area!"

"You don't need to be embarrassed. Everyone has something they're not good at. Maybe you just don't have the talent for cleaning. From what I know, Emili is really good at it. Once she cleaned the whole building in just ten minutes and it was really shiny everywhere."

Kora points to the other side of the floor that was cleaned.

"That's where I cleaned, okay!?"

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever you say~"

Kora gives up explaining. She goes back to sweeping the dirty floor.

Jek watches Kora sweep in silence. After a short moment, he says, "Hey, you don't have to work so hard on it. You did your best. You're a patient anyways. Emili won't criticize you. Besides, um...I'm afraid the more you sweep, the more you'll just make it worse..."

Kora continues to sweep in silence.

"Hey! How about you go get something to eat for me instead of cleaning?"

Jek pulls out a small sheet of paper and writes some things down. "I'll give you the money, just do this favor for me. In exchange, you can use the extra money to buy anything you want. And if you're bored, just go look around and have some fun."

"But I'm still cleaning!"

"It's alright. Just leave that to Emili! She'll clean this up in less than a second. You don't have to worry about it."

Jek grabs Kora's hand and gives Kora the mofs. "I'm depending on you, kiddo!"

"Okay...I'll come back as soon as I can so I can clean this up."

"You see, maybe you're just not suited for this...so maybe- Argh, nevermind. Just go."

"I'll just clean it up instead if Emili doesn't come back in time," Jek says quietly.

He'd rather clean it himself than leave the cleaning to me...Whatever. Going outside doesn't seem like a bad idea anyway, Kora thinks to herself.

Kora leaves the bakery, taking the mofs and the piece of paper Jek gave her. On the back of the paper, was a simple drawing of a map drawn by Jek to show where she needs to go. On the top left corner, Kora saw the words "West Street" crossed out. The ink used to cross the words out was recently crossed out since the ink was still fresh.

"He probably crossed it out because of what Emili said before..."

The words "West Street" seemed to be written a while ago and the map seemed to be drawn a while ago as well. The only other thing on the back of the paper that seemed new was the circle that Jek drew to mark where she needed to go since the ink looked fresh. Kora thinks about the words on the corner of the paper and stares at the map.

"Oh! There's a spot far away from where he wanted me to go and it's not marked. Maybe that's where West Street is... I'll go buy the things first and if I still have time to spare, I'll go check it out. Jek did say I could look around after I finished my task..."
