Rambling to myself a little more, I finally fully awaken. Although not drowsy, It's like getting a full night's sleep and still being under the warm sheets, able to go under at any moment. Ignoring the tickling feeling in the back of my mind that is the insecurity of me getting a power about... grass.. I grab my wallet and City ID, that holds merits and all that other shit after joining a guild or whatever you want to call it. Associations? Really, its their job to pick the Title, anyone can get in. Now climbing the social ladder? That's a whole new ball game.
Opening the thin thick wallet made of some dark leather that's been worn down over the years, my ID practically shines in the darkness with the very neat lamination covering its every inch. Reading it silently, I feel a little bit of pain, confusion, and a hint of unwillingness seep from the depths of my heart.
Over the centuries, the IDs have gotten much simpler seeing how no matter if you use yours or not, you can only ever use one to register for a powerful Association. This is it.. Staring at it, I start to read it word for word.
[Name: Cas (Male)]
[Age: 16 (8/16/6003)]
[City Residence: Gov. Res. 112]
[No Registered Phone Number]
Honestly not much. The phone number thing? I'm not really allowed to change that. Only on two occasions can you alter your ID information, though a lengthy process of retinal scans, fingerprints, hell, even a blood drawing are required. One of those being moving to a new Residence, the other is registering. And not the Sex Offender one either. As a powerful being grows stronger, they need to make connections to move up not only the ladder of power, but also the social ladder. Connections could make or break an issue.
Opening the door of the house, I'm presented with a street empty of cars, yet full of people. Although no one uses cars due to the fact that you can Teleport, construction vehicles, cable vehicles, or moving vehicles still do their work. Not to mention the roads are great for recreation, like Skateboarding and Hoverboarding. Yeah, fucking hoverboarders.
Always showing off, with their fancy levitating Skateboards and shit. You know, nothing really changes with the skateboard except theirs these fancy ass runes on the wheel that let you infuse your power. Something about Mana or something. The problem is.. if you have a materializing power, the explode. I can manipulate grass and plants. What's that gonna do, root me to the ground?
Damnit, it happened again.
Walking into the commercial district, past the training centers, weapon shops, and some giant ball of metal that people with giant physiques kept walking into and disappearing inside of without taking up space. That last one was weird.
Finally, making my way up a small slope, in the road and passing a few food vendors, a nice, homey building comes into sight. Instead of a formal registry building, a nice log cabin with smoke wafting out of the chimney appears, having a calming effect on the surroundings. Any gusts of wind lessens to a nice breeze, squirrels stop fidgeting in place, and birds chirp like music instead of shredding anyone's ear drums. Clearly someone has a superpower that does that.. or something. Probably 'or something'.
Opening to the door, a warm wind hits me. My lazy nature's about to kick in when a slightly late bell sound comes from over the door, clearly rebounding deeply due to the door opening, but not too much so as to cause a disturbance. Looking for an empty desk is a very difficult task.
Weaving between people, the outsides are clearly much smaller than the insides. God damn spatial powers. Finally, spotting a desk area with a line of only around 3 people, I observe the counter. Sitting behind the nice mahogany desk, a petite woman with dark green hair, which doesn't look dyed, a beautiful face and pasty complexion. As her face doesn't look accomodating to makeup, she clearly takes good care of herself. Although looking a tiny strange, her eyes are a nice blue making a weird contrast to her hair color. Her clothes consist of a dress suit, including the skirt to be accomodating enough to cover any prying eyes.
As I take in the image and develop a tiny insecurity at heart, I find myself staring at her while being the first in line after a few minutes, which is awkward.. so I flash a small smile and apologise.
"Sorry, it's my first time here and I realise I'm being a bit creepy."
She flashes a smile in condolence as if routine, though not too impersonal. And then pulls out the form and hands them to me not close enough to receive yet not too far as to make the reach awkward.
"Registration papers?" She asks with a relatively sweet voice.
'Ah, shit. That obvious...?' That's all that could flash through my mind before I.. well, I don't really do anything. A strike of embarrassment is normal, really. Just depends on how you play it off. Not showing my brief fit, I nod to her with a small smile and finish talking to her about the specifics for the papers, almost embarrassing myself again due to not reading her Name Tag, which was... a queue for me to be more attentive to the conversation.
It was 'Lia', by the way. Though, the initial G doesn't really help to know the last name.
(A/N: Yeah.. that was my first person to person dialogue! Not very good, but I'm doing some research into stories that emphasize the character's social life so as to not mess up the flow of the story. Any advice?)
Sitting down in a lounge chair, I look towards my surrounding and can't really see.. well, walls. Behind me is the door wall, I know, but everything else? Too far. Hundreds of doors line that very, very special wall and all open to the same place, though people only leave at intervals, respecting the fact that outside would be a shitshow with so many people in and out at once.
Filling out the papers, which is basically a contract to sign my life away.. Not literally, though. Basically, there's about 6 pages to sign that say if I go out of my way to provoke any higher up of the organization I'm assigned to, I could be subjected to death.
Oh, higher up? Yeah, no.. you see, except for the Chairman and Punishers for every group, there's an underling hierarchy sort of like a self-created club. As you get stronger you climb that group, and if you're at the top, you can be support by others so as to become a Punisher. Punishers are basically law enforcement that don't restrict actions, just defend any action that stains the reputation of the group.
They're Master Clout Chasers, you'd never understand. (A/N: ;D)
Brushing the hair out of my face, rubbing my eyes, and smacking the right side of my face. I'm.. awake! Those damn questions, really pushing my buttons. Or if those so called buttons are nipples, pulling my buttons. Pulling my nipples? Really just pulling something they shouldn't.
Damnit, again...
Pulling myself together, there's 1 last sheet that'll determine which association I go to. Thinking the word association is so long. I can't wait, I hope the suffix is guild so I don't have to say the word association when presenting myself. Oh, but what if I just use a acronym? You know what, whatever.
Here's what I filled out..
You know, after that ID information shit.
Weapon of Choice: Bow
Secondary Weapon: Daggers
Supernatural Ability (Please elaborate): The ability to manipulate small plants, mostly Grass and Weeds, though exerting strength is difficult. Extremely weak.
You know what? That one hurt to put down. Lia did say that I had to put down my current capabilities, or else I'd be assigned to a team much stronger than me and then.. well, die.
Preferred Group: None
Would you like to be assigned to a team?: Yes
Why the fuck wouldn't I be assigned to a team? Are you kidding me? I don't need to fail just ONE session of hunting or whatever and end up getting my ass beat by a Goblin. I can't even use a weapon yet. Though I've always loved the idea of using a Bow, I've never put in the time to train. After all, an Orphanage doesn't really let you go to a shooting range. Or have a bow and arrow.. really anything that's used to kill. Ahh, registration!
Maybe now I can kill shit. Maybe stop using grass. Throw trees. You know, that doesn't sound that bad.

First off, as a very inexperience Author, I decided to write these first two chapters in first person perspective without really thinking. I want to switch to a third person type of prespective to better represent his actions and thoughts without over personalizing his actions, making the description foolish. I've just read into some stories that are more popular like Library of Heaven's Path and Monster Pet Evolution, and honestly I feel as if the stories flow really smoothly. I aspire to have that sort of attraction.
Ignoring that as it is, I'm not satisfied with these first two chapters and will probably rewrite them in the future. Looking at what I'm trying to say, it makes sense to me. It's the start! Be either subtle or forceful, as long as you get the point across. Yet, it doesn't come off that way. I want the character's attitude to represent how I am. Lazy, yet competitive. Not committed, but sentimental. A bit lonely, or astray.
I hope that people can enjoy these as they are, and if not, I truly hope that i can be informed without taking any offense. I'm a pretty straightforward person and although I love my ideas and to be unique, I can also appreciate a person being honest with themselves. And my honesty to myself is that I could do better. Thanks for reading! :D
