A goblin's life is a simple one. The day of a goblin starts with waking up, of course. Goblins all sleep in a large building, usually in the middle of the nest.
Once a goblin has woken up, it is necessary to pray to their god, Tul Darle. As Tul Darle was the creator of monsters, it is no surprise goblins pray to them.
After that, their morning meal begins. Breakfast will usually be mushrooms and other kinds of vegetables. However, meat will never be served, as it is against tradition. Why this tradition even began, nobody knows. It's just how it is, and that's how many traditions are, right?
After food, hunting parties go out to kill some local wildlife. Be it mere animals or lower rank monsters, goblins hunt whatever they can find. And just as, they eat whatever they find. Goblins are both hunters and scavengers, after all.
While this is happening, different groups of goblins will go out to collect all sorts of vegetation to eat and use for later. While goblins do mainly just eat the nearby vegetation, some more intelligent tribes often use herbs and such for their medicinal usages.
During the duration of time, the goblins are hunting and scavenging, there will be at least eight goblins in the nest at all times. One, to protect the Goblin Lord or leader, two, help take care of the injured so that they may again do their duty in later times, and three, care for the infant and children goblins.
The hunting and scavenging parties will be back before nightfall, so that they may share in the food they retrieved for the tribe. And once the entire tribe is collected nearby a bonfire, they will feast upon the bounties of nature.
I repeat again, a goblin's life is a simple one, but what I wish for, is for mine to not be.
I am a Hob-goblin, an evolved variant of the average goblin. As a hob-goblin, I serve to lead the larger group of the hunting parties. However, even with the extra work it is to order around the lower rank goblins, I constantly feel an ever-present desire to be something more, to do more than serve my lord.
I, other than the Goblin Lord in this nest, am the only Goblin able to speak the common tongue. This is exactly why I feel my potential is being wasted.
After my former tribe was completely decimated by adventurers, I was forced to run away. Luckily, or unluckily enough, I found this nest lead by the goblin lord, 'Enk'.
Now, as I said before, I serve as a hunting party leader. However, all of this, and I mean ALL of this... is completely and utterly boring. Every day is the same routine, eat, hunt, eat, sleep. This never-ending cycle has gotten old, and I've only been in this current tribe for two weeks.
But this... this is not what I wanted.
In a mere instant, everything was lit ablaze. Buildings, goblins, everything. It was complete and utter anarchy. My ears were filled with the panicked screeches of the many goblins, and my nose was stuffed with the smell of smoke and ash.
This was just another cruel reminder to me of how unforgiving this world is.
From the corner of my eye, I noticed five individuals. Two, most definitely human. Another two were so covered in clothes that I couldn't tell what they were, and one other, a beastman.
Of course, reality often likes to repeat itself. I've had that sentence forever etched into my head.
My first tribe was destroyed by Adventurers, and my second one will too.
This is why I find there's only one way for me to survive this, and it's the exact reason I've survived up until now. Running away.
Well, yes, it's correct that I believe myself to be at least somewhat adept at combat, it would be simply stupid of me to assume I could beat five higher rank lifeforms. Goblins are known for being weak, aren't they? That's what I've heard, at least.
Either way, it seems rather than a single individual, the entire nest is their target. That, right there, is the worse possible situation for me. I would've much preferred it if they went after the goblin lord directly...
Well, by now, I'm pretty much in the clear. It should be obvious, but I'm a fast runner. Even so, I'll keep on running until there's no way they'd catch up to me... that's all a coward like me can do, after all.
Perhaps the life of a goblin just simply isn't for me, I've never enjoyed this lifestyle of hunting and then being hunted. Short has been my life, but I know enough that I'm not an idiot.
With all that said and done, should I really go find a different tribe? No, I'm done with that. I'm done with living like a goblin. Starting here and now, I reject my former self.
I've heard there's a kingdom that accepts monsters as its residents... maybe I should make that my destination.
In my entire life, I've only received one gift. It was from the one to who I was born. A map of the world. Once upon a time, my mother who I really never got to know well, had a dream. A dream of exploring the world.
Fine, I make a pledge. A pledge that I'll accept my mother's dream, and live on, not as a goblin, but as a human. And from now on... I'll be Rynt Virmai. Yeah, I like that name.
Who knew that all I needed to accept reality was a little fire?
