Chapter 1 - 1. BY THE GLIMMERING BOW LAKE

Anne sat by the lake. Recollections were gushing through her. The time she had spent near this lake with her best friend Mark and her sister Linda, her conversations with Charles, the picnics with her family members, her small fights with her cousins. She took a deep breath. It had been a week since she had spoken to Charles. She was meeting up with him on this fine Sunday, near the beautiful lake where she loved to spend her time. She sighed as realisation hit her.

"You're early!", said a familiar voice.

"Charles!", smiled Anne

They embraced each other. They were pretty close friends. Anne locked her eyes with Charles' for a moment. She smiled. She was grateful to have a friend like him. There was Mark whom she could share her secrets with. But she had begun to suspect her emotions for him. She could definitely not share this doubt with Mark.

"So...how are you Anne? And any change in your feelings?"

She sighed and said: "I'm not sure if I love him..."

Charles simply stared at Anne. He looked quite amused. Anne narrowed her eyes and Charles retracted. Then they began talking. It was almost like a therapy. It was basically pouring their hearts out. And unknowingly minutes turned into hours. After almost 3 hours, Anne noticed that the sky was pretty clear and the sun was at its peak.

"Ah! it's noon. I think we should get going."

"Okay Anne. Please do inform me if you get some clarity on your emotions.", said a beaming Charles.

They hugged each other and bid their goodbyes. Anne walked to the Indian-themed restaurant across the street. She loved the atmosphere there. As she entered, the scent of peppermint wafted across. She felt refreshed and sat on an empty seat. The food came within 5 minutes and Anne ate it up very quickly as she was starving. She paid the bill and went across the street, back to the park which housed the bow lake. She had often wondered why it was called the bow lake but was never offered an explanation. She sat down in a bench and rested for a few minutes. After feeling refreshed by the scenery, Anne took her car keys from her purse and began to drive her way back home. After reaching her apartment she parked her car and made her way to the elevator. She lived in the second floor. She opened the door F2-6 and walked inside. She grabbed her pajamas, went to the bathroom, took a quick shower and laid on her bed. She was really tired. She immediately fell asleep.
