A story of how someone ignorant (a frog in a well) exploring and becoming stronger until it reaches lovecraftian levels of futility despite being able to become stronger with commentary on how societies based on 'might makes right' will result in wars and strife that if avoided could have saved humanity from the lovecraftian horrors, but because of ignorance they live happily throwing away the future of humanity, and then the protagonist dies, but that isn't the end; he is given a second shot at life; to become stronger and lead humanity on the right path; but will it be enough to surpass the unknown?(is he still a frog in a well?)
The scale of strength would be setup in a way that makes humans extremely vulnerable but also very powerful, the result would be peace treaties etc. Based on ideas of mutual destruction, kindof like the cold war. With magic of course; but the magic is mainly researched by the lovecraftian horrors; so few know any magics at all; and those who do are mostly slavelabourers of the horrors and barely know useful magic.
