Chapter 98 - Using the One-Way Communicator

"Hey, Halad, can you single out Norani for communication? I want to let her know that it's just me testing out the Pillar's technology. It'd be easier to have her pass the information to the others that need to know rather than have a strange voice beaming into multiple minds." After saying this, the Dragonborn lad then began using a keyboard nearby to perform a search function. While the sovereigns were well known, the exception to this was Hirosch Titan, who had not even ascended to the throne yet. If he could locate the soon-to-be-ruler ahead of time, he could send a mental image of Hirosch to Norani, which would greatly assist the Light Faction rulers in finding the next Dwarven Sovereign.

Halad grumbled, [I suddenly feel like I'm playing second fiddle to a greenhorn. Fine, I'll get on it with Arthur so he can be the voice for the message. When you're done locating who I think you're looking for, let me know and I'll attach the surveillance footage as a mental projection.] The A.I. then floated back over the coms hub where Arthur was, quickly having the human king perform the necessary actions to prepare the one-way messaging service.

Thanks to the highly advanced technology in the Pillar, it took less than ten minutes for Luca to locate Hirosch. Despite being only 33, he was well-respected and admired for his capabilities and level-headed style of command. As the current head of House Titan following his father's demise during one of the regular underground patrols, nicknamed 'cleaners', extermination missions, his leadership and combat prowess had surprised many other Houses. Rather than the aggressive style of rule that most, but not all, Dwarven sovereigns and Head of House adopted, he followed a more stable method that was more neutral in nature. However, that did not mean he was soft. He still remained a man prepared to risk it all for the sake of his people's future. Of course, as a Head of a Warrior House like his father and his father before him, Hirosch personally led cleaner patrols out from the Stalwart Gates far more frequently than other Heads, thus showing his willingness to ensure nothing reaches the Gates.

The search time originally was longer than Luca had hoped for due to a handful of factors. The most critical of these factors was the fact that Luca had never heard of Hirosch Titan even during his experience in the game. Multiple people were put up as interim rulers following Bhelen's tyrannical slaughtering, most of which died either in combat or due to being Tainted, while others were deposed due to their methods of ruling and/or their personalities after taking the position of sovereign. Based on a hunch, Luca believed that Hirosch was one of the numerous people that Bhelen had killed over his manic later rule. Locating him and ensuring his survival would undoubtedly prove to be a much greater boon than the long and awful process of selecting a new ruler after numerous debates. If the High Priestess had specifically mentioned this person, they were undoubtedly critical to the future.

Halad, after getting Luca's go-ahead, aided Arthur in activating the communication device. [The mental image will be sent after you finish broadcasting the audio. You're not exactly capable enough to send both at once, especially at specific moments in the message.] As Halad said this, Luca redirected the 3D map back to focus on Norani.

Arthur, unable to muster any response to such a factual statement, just silently continued before pressing the broadcasting button. He spoke into a microphone that, when heard by those nearby and to those receiving the message, sounded like someone talking through an intercom in a tunnel, very echo-y and slightly unclear. "Hello? This thing better be working or I'll sound like an idiot. Lady Dreamwalker, this is Arthur Valar, speaking to you from the Atlas Pillar. It's a bit difficult to explain, but we can perform one-way long-distance communication through a piece of equipment in the Pillar. If you can hear my voice, please lower the defences you raised a few minutes ago so we can see you on our equipment. The sensation of being watched that you felt was Luca attempting to locate you with the equipment."

A couple of seconds after Arthur stopped speaking, the 3D image of Norani reappeared in the projection, though with an understandably confused but astonished look. The king then continued, "Good, now we can see your responses. We're unable to receive communication from you for various reasons, but we can now see you, which will help greatly." He then cleared his throat, "Now, the reason why we're using this equipment is actually rather simple. Another recording of Echadir appeared when we entered the secret part of the Pillar. According to him, we must bring all of the current sovereigns, except for Bhelen, and avatars of both Pseudo-Sages to the Pillar before we can activate a portal installed inside. We don't need Bhelen, as he was not mentioned at all. Instead, the High Priestess named one Hirosch Titan, a descendant of the first Paragon, as the dwarf representative. We gather that he is the proper successor to Bhelen based on this. In a minute, I will send a mental projection to you of his appearance so you can pass it on to the other two that went to Kharnboldohr. If you understand what I've said so far, please nod."

Luca watched the map projection the entire time, taking in Norani's expressions as she listened to Arthur's voice. With her intellect and experience, it took her no time at all to comprehend the details she'd been told, and she nodded not two seconds following Arthur's request. At this point, Luca headed over and shoved himself close enough to speak into the microphone, "Norani, it's Luca. We need to open the portal to get help, and two Pseudo-Sages that guard it will come through before we can go through it. If I'm right, one of them is the Snow Elf Pseudo-Sage. I'm sure I don't need to tell you what that means." If the facts up until this point only mildly startled the ancient Pseudo-Sage, then this one truly rattled her. Considering the information Luca had told her previously during their meeting, the Snow Elf Pseudo-Sage was someone that Norani absolutely had to meet.
