Emily frowned. "It sounds terrible when you put it that way. I liked you well enough to want to be friends when we finally did meet and you fit into my world just fine."
Justin thought about it. It wasn't that he fit into Emily's world. He forced his way into becoming a central part of it. If he hadn't offered her rides to and from school they never would have gone past neighbors who occasionally acknowledged each other's existence.
Besides, things were different in college. He was her first friend and the one she saw most often. Between work and school, Emily was too busy to have much of a social life.
She was friendly with people in her classes and a few coworkers but they rarely did things together outside of class or work though she did spend quite a bit of time hanging out with her roommate. In high school Emily was far too involved with other people and activities to even notice Justin existed after seeing him a bunch of times.
"I guess."
