Chapter 4 - Truth

Another minute or two passed by as Helen started to recover from her momentarily and Athena loosened Helen from her embrace.

"Eahaeah...." an awkward silence crept in between the girls.

"Sorry about earlier... I.I kinda got carried away. I finally have a sister. Haha" Athena explained awkwardly with a stiff laugh. She wanted to talk more about a serious matter but just then...

*Knock* a series of knocks were produced from the other side of the door.

"Miss, I brought some snacks. Your mother ordered me to... May I come in?" The maid formally asked.

"Please" Helen replied as she unlocked the door.

The maid entered, placed the tray of snacks and juice on the side table and left with a 'thank you'

Athena followed behind the maid and locked the door after the maid left.

Athena turned around and sat down one of the armchairs. Helen followed her lead and sat down across her and slightly pushed the tray of snacks towards Athena.

An awkward silence was soon formed.

Helen was thinking of starting a conversation but her thought process was broken by Athena's voice.

"I have something very important to discuss with you." Helen looked up to see her sister and was surprised to see her serious face. Her eyes were filled with somewhat concealed adoration.

"En" Helen replied in a confused tone.

" I won't beat around the bush." Athena continued after a slight pause" My mum was responsible for your mother's death... and yo-our father might be a part of it."

It was as if the world collapsed. It has been quite over a few months since her mother's death. At first, she was devastated and in despair. But she got through it remembering how her mother always told her to 'never give up'.

She was sad after learning that she was going to have another mother. 'How could her father get over her mother so quickly?' Helen wondered. But after learning that he had a biological daughter about 1 year older than herself. She was too scared to think of the new family and their previous relationship.

Now once she was told this she was unsure who to trust.

Knowing her thought Athen spoke again. " You might think I am lying and are probably unsure of who to trust. I know you have been through a lot. But this is the truth." Athena spoke with certainty. Her eyes clearly expressed her words. It was as if her eyes were speaking themselves and in those eyes, there was nothing but the truth in them.

"W.W.Wh.Why w-ould you tell me this? Isn't she... If this is the truth why would you expose your mother like this? Her becoming the headmistress of this family, wouldn't it be beneficial for you?" Helen asked as she tried to calm her self down and register the fact that her mother was murdered.

Athena smiled. She knew her smart little girl will ask this question. " Do you think my mother loves your father?" Helen replied with a question in a sarcastic tone.

Looking at Helen she continued. My mother doesn't love your father, she didn't do all that planning to be together with your father. She did it to gain status. Imagine If she can do all that for money and power. Do you think she won't use me for other beneficial gains?

Helen realized what are sister was indicating... She was shocked at the possibility of things her step-mother has probably done and can do.

Athena was about to tell her sister the bitter truth she had learned, while she was breathing her last breath in her past life. But just as she was about to speak, she felt a warm body hugging her tightly. "It's ok, it's ok. We are sisters, we will get through it together.

Athena nodded and wrapped her arms around her sister's body, returning the hug. The words she was about to speak all went back down her throat. Athena felt something different.

Genuine love.
