Ara!
Araa!
Araaa!
Bursting through the door without knocking, her new housemate, Sasha came to her office. Groaning, she put down her papers to join the other stacks piled on her table. Aurora was questioning herself again why she agreed to house the blonde, blue-eyed 23 year old intern who's now bouncing up and down. No doubt about something trivial. But maybe that was why she offered her room when she saw her one day crying in the hospital parking lot because her landlord evicted her for not paying rent.
She always saw Sasha with a smile and laughing eyes. As if she can't see any wrong in the world. They were quite opposites. If she was the night in winter, then Sasha Colt was sunshine in summer. It was what intrigued her so she approached her that night.
Aurora can still remember that evening.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Ms. Colt, are you all right?"
Startled, Sasha Colt hastily wiped her eyes and nose and looked to where the voice came from when she saw Aurora.
"I'm fine Dr. Mondragon" she quietly said.
"I don't know what your definition of fine Ms. Colt but mine does not include puffy eyes and a runny nose" Aurora replied. Then her expression softened and asked kindly, "Would you like to get a cup of coffee?"
This shocked Sasha. For the 4 months that she's been an intern, she hasn't seen the stoic genius doctor make that kind of expression to anyone other than her patients. That's why she didn't answer immediately, she was silenced with shock. Aurora took this as a no, so she started saying to forget it and apologized for disturbing her. She started walking away.
"No!"
This startled Aurora. She was already walking away. The girl didn't need to shout her rejection. And it hurt her more than it should have. She was frowning when Sasha continued speaking.
"I mean don't go. I-I m-mean, I w-would l-like to get c-coffee" the intern stutteringly explained. "I'm sorry for suddenly shouting Dr. Mondragon. I was just shocked. I mean, you don't really talk to any of the interns outside of work. And you just suddenly offered coffee, and I was shocked and, and, and…" Sasha hastily explained.
For 30 seconds, there was silence and the intern was just fidgeting now while looking at the ground. Chastising herself for being a babbling idiot in front of the renowned doctor, when suddenly, there was the sound of tinkling bells. It was weird since they were in the parking lot. So she looked up and realized that the sound was coming from the doctor.
Aurora was quietly laughing. When she was done, she looked to a dumbfounded Sasha and amusedly offered to take her car. The poor intern could only nod. This night was just full of surprises it seems.
After 3 hours of conversation, 4 cups of coffee, and 2 apple pies between them, Aurora learned the life story of the girl in front of her.
Coming from the country and trying her luck in the big city, Sasha left everything to become a successful doctor in Metropolis. But she soon realized that the city is harsher than she thought and with only a small amount in her bank account and the meagre allowance of an intern, she soon found herself in the streets. They were both quietly contemplating now. Then, Aurora did something that shocked even her.
"You can stay with me if you'd like" Aurora suddenly said. She was shocked at first but seeing the hopeful look on Sasha, she decided it would be okay.
Sasha looked up to her with brimming eyes. She wanted to refuse but she knew this is the only chance she'll get and she couldn't imagine a better offer.
"Are you sure doctor?"
"Of course. I'm not one to joke about these things" Aurora replied seriously and then smiled.
Sasha broke into a stunning smile that made her eyes shine. She truly is a beautiful girl. Aurora thought.
"Oh, thank you. Thank you. Thank you Dr. Mondragon. I promise I won't be a nuisance. I'll do my part and pay my dues. I swear!" Sasha exclaimed.
"But on one condition" Aurora said.
"Anything, Doctor. You're a life-saver. I mean, you already are because you're a doctor. And a really good one. I mean a great doctor" Sasha rattled on.
Smiling, Aurora said "You can stay with me if you start calling me Aurora from now on"
"Deal!"
