Aurora Isla Mondragon is an average girl.
There was nothing special about her.
Well, that's what she thought of herself. Standing at 5'7'', fair-skinned, and with flowing black hair, she thought of herself as just any other girl seen on the streets.
Though, her most distinguishing trait, or only distinguishing trait as she sees it, is her eyes. They're the color of the sky lights seen in the northern hemisphere. If one looks closely, it would seem like the colors are always moving. Just like the Aurora borealis. That was why she was named after it. She might be an ordinary girl, but she always loved her eyes. She always thought of them as her most redeeming quality, if nothing else.
At 23, she was just like any millennial out there, trying to work hard and save as much as she can in hopes of a better and comfortable life.
Working as a doctor at the local hospital of Metropolis City, she's striving to keep her wits and make ends meet. She's worked hard to get where she was now.
As an orphan, she could only rely so much in the system until she was 18. So she worked hard. Harder than anyone she knew because she realized she's the only person she can truly rely on. All her hard work paid off eventually.
Graduating top of her class at just 18, completing her internship and residency at 20, she was one of the most brilliant minds the Metropolis Medical Hospital has ever seen and had. Despite that, she still faces unnecessary discrimination for being a woman. It might be the 21st century, but men's ego transcends time and still blinds them to reach further greatness by not truly embracing new perspectives other than their own and giving due recognition where they truly belong.
That does not deter her though, nor stop her from achieving greatness on her own. Revered as one of the best heart surgeons in the country, her accomplishments have given her recognition in the medical field, even in the scientific world where her researches are considered as inspiring as they are brilliant.
Being great at her field is not all rainbows however. By dedicating herself to her work, she has had no lasting relationships, be it platonic or intimate.
She couldn't give enough time and effort to maintain any connection that comes. Or more accurately, she wouldn't. Aurora learned the hard way how fickle human emotions are; how easy a heart can change. That's why she chose her specialization in heart surgery. On her operating table, hearts never lie.
Growing up in the system taught her to be hard-hearted. To always guard her emotions and not get attached to something or someone because they can easily hurt you. So she's lived her life since as a scholar foregoing human connections.
This didn't help at all with her work environment where she's already isolated due to her gender. Adding to that, her indifference makes her as someone that they refer to as the Ice Queen. She didn't mind though. Aurora knows herself and she knows she's capable of love. It can be seen on how she deals with her patients. It is only with them her compassion and humanity shines through. If one just pays attention, it is very obvious.
Aurora also wishes for love. She just hasn't found the right one yet. Or the right person hasn't found her. Either way, till that time comes she's going to continue excelling in her field.
