Chapter 1 - The Beginning...

"Did you know? North of the main road there's said to be an abandoned hospital filled with ghosts. This park is right outside from it." The man raised his arms like a zombie and stumbled towards a girl.

"Oh shut up Edward!" The short haired girl pushed him away playfully. Edward stopped and wrapped his arms around the girl's waist.

"Come on Jen, even if they do come I'll beat them all for you~" He nuzzled the back of her neck with his face. She struggled limply.

"H-hey, what if someone sees us?" Her face began heating up at the though of being exposed.

"No one's coming here at night. Why do you think I brought you here?" His hands traveled up her shirt with a purpose. They were standing in the middle of a park, hidden by trees and bushes. Jen swayed slightly and something caught the corner of her eye.

"Edward. You're not trying to scare me with your friends are you?" He stopped his advances and raised his head.

"Hn? Why?"

"I swear I saw something move in those bushes." She pointed at a few bushes close to them.

"Probably just a squirrel or something." He lowered his head and began to kiss her neck.

"No Edward stop! I'm serious. There's something there." She pulled off his arms and stood next to him. Her hands shaking slightly.

"C'mon babe. Don't tell me you're scared of ghosts are you? There's nothing there. Look I'll even go check." He pushed off from her and walked towards the bushes. He put one foot in and felt a hand close around his leg. "AAhh!" Edward disappeared into the bushes his screams gone.

"Babe? Babe don't play with me!" Suddenly the park seemed even more intimidating. The trees loomed over her, their branches like fingers waiting to grab her. The grass tickled her toes through her sandals.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

Her heartbeat sounded louder than a drum. The wind began to roar around her.

"Babe! I swear if you keep doing this I'm going to break up with you!"

No answer. Instead the bush where Edward had disappeared into was beginning to shake. A pale hand reached out, clawing it's way towards Jen.

"EEekkk!" With her eyes closed shut Jen screamed into the darkness. Repeatedly, over and over again. She never seemed to run out of breath. When she opened her eyes she saw her boyfriend and his best friend laughing at her.

"Ha ha ha! Babe! You seriously got scared!" Edward was clutching his stomach. "Darren, do you have the video?" Barely able to speak through wheezes Edward stumbled over to his buddy.

"You bet I did! Look, I got a screenshot of her screaming." Darren pulled out his phone and showed Edward a fuzzy picture of Jen's screaming face. Her mouth was open and her face scrunched up. A truly embarrassing photo. Jen stomped towards Edward.

"You ass! I was seriously worried about you!" She punched him in the shoulder while at the same time hugging him. "Can we leave now? If you still wanted to do 'it' then the moods already over."

"Alright babe. Darren, you got the hand?" Darren held up the severed mannequin hand.

"I'm lucky the boss decided to clean out his store. Otherwise my hand wouldn't have been believable enough." Darren waved the hand around and poked Jen with it.

"Fuck off Darren. This was probably your idea." She tried to kick him but he just slid away.

"Aww, poor Jen too embarrassed to admit you almost peed yourself?" Darren threw the hand at her. Edward caught it and placed an arm around Jen's shoulders.

"Okay, let's go. I'm hungry."

"Yeah, the trees are giving me the creeps." Jen pushed Edward towards the park path and Darren followed.

As they neared the parking lot there was only one car.

"Fuck! Who towed my car? And why only mine?!" Darren kicked the ground in frustration. Jen and Edward walked towards their car and saw Darren's dilemma.

"Bro, wanna catch a ride with us?" Edward gestured to his car with his thumb.

"Sure."

"Okay, let's just hurry up. This park is really creeping me out."

"Alright babe."

All three of them packed into Edwards car. Jen in the passenger seat and Darren in the back in the middle. The musky smell of beer and car fresheners seemed to sooth Jen a bit. She held Edward's hand with one of hers. Darren was in the back staring at the road. Trees flashed by, the road under them a black mass of concrete. As Jen was falling asleep and Edward was too focused on the road Darren saw something on the side of the road.

"Holy shit dude! I think I just saw a girl on the side of the road!" Jen stirred awake and turned around to face Darren.

"Knock it off. The jokes already over." She glared at him but her face was barely illuminated by the head lights of the car. Darren raised his hands in defense and shrugged.

"Your choice if you believe me or not."

"Well I don't now shut up."

"Whatever..." Darren slumped back into his seat and stared out the window. He crossed his arms in front of him. The moon drifted in and out of sight behind the trees. It was a full moon tonight and yet the forest surrounding the park had barely been lit up. His eyes trailed the edge of the road when a pair of something white caught his eye. Yet just like that they flashed by. Darren discarded the sight as sleepiness and shifted to the seat behind the driver. He leaned his head on the window trying to fall asleep.

Knock knock.

Darren's half open eyes widened and he turned around. The window nothing but darkness with the slight outline of the forest where it met the sky. Darren shifted in his seat and leaned his head against the window again.

Knock knock.

"Oh come on Jen!" Darren got up and shifted to the middle. He shook her shoulder and she responded with a ticked off shove. "Quit it. I scared you good. Big deal. I'm trying to sleep so stop trying to scare me."

"The fuck you talking about?" Jen was obviously pissed off. She was already asleep when Darren woke her up with some more nonsense. Edward didn't say anything. He just continued to navigate the curves of the road.

"Stop knocking on the window. For your information, it's really loud if you have your ear to the window." Darren flicked Jen's hand away and went back to his spot behind Edward.

"Whatever." Jen shifted in her seat and turned to face the window. She closed her eyes but Edward hit a bump which caused them to open. Staring at her was a pale face with impossibly large eyes. The mouth nothing more than a small hole. It's pale skin seemed to glow in the moonlight. Long fingers clung to the window. In slow crooked movements the hole turned into a smile that stretched from one side of it's face to the other.

Jen screamed so suddenly it caused Edward to swerve on the road.

"Wh- Shit!" The car spun in a few circles before finally calming down. Darren was wide awake with his face plastered on the backseat.

"What the fuck Edward?" He pulled himself up with one arm and rested his chin on it.

"Ask that to Jen." Edward was relaxing his tense arms and flexing his hands. They both looked at Jen. She was trembling with both hands covering her ears. her whole body was shaking.

"W-what's up Jen?" Edward reached a hand over to touch Jen but she slapped it away. As if realizing what she just did her head flicked upwards and she looked at Edward. Her eyes filled with fear and tears.

"Babe... I'm scared..." Edward gave her a questioning look but before he could say anything Darren began screaming.

"Ahh! Shit, what the fuck!" Darren was pointing to the windshield, his finger trembling.

"The fuck Darren?" Edward turned to face Darren but a sour smell soon filled the car. He reached up and flicked on the roof light. "The fuck man!?" With the lights on Edward could see that Darren had pissed himself. The wet stain accompanied by the smell it was obvious what it was.

"My car du-!"

KNock knOcK.

Edward turned around and right there. In the car. Long fingers reached deep into his mouth and ears. The pale face was smiling now, it's eyes squinting in joy. Soon it opened up it's mouth, which expanded larger than it's own head and bit down on Edwards head. Jen and Darren tried to move but thick black hair already wrapped around them.

"Mmfhh!" Jen struggled but she felt something slimy on her face. She looked up and there was a head on the roof of the car. "Mmhmm!" The face fell on hers and it chewed her nose off, blood dribbling down her face. Jen began sobbing, her screams muffled by the hair. Rotten teeth with some gone chewed and chewed on her nose. Another head appeared and began to tear at her ear. Her struggles only bringing her even more pain.

Darren couldn't scream either. Small white worms were digging into his skin, seemingly coming out of nowhere. They scrawled up his clothes and up his nose, burrowing in places like his arms and legs.

"P-plweeese... Dn't ill ee..." He was crying now. sobbing though the hair that seemed to dig deeper into his skin with every move. Just like Jen he was tied in the hair of the monster eating Edward. Soon all three of them died from the monsters.

A small pale figure at the top of the hospital raised it's hand.

"It's almost time..." She turned around and disappeared.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Follorn City. A small community with not a lot about it. With few newcomers and no tourists, it's a city that prospers on farming and legends. Located on a small peninsula the beaches are a tourist attraction as well as their fabled abandoned hospital. Thrill seekers and ghost hunters come from everywhere to try their luck at capturing a ghost or paranormal activity on camera.

In one of the two only cafe's in Follorn, a group of college kids ready for an adventure prep for their next thrill...

"So... How's that sound?" A man in glasses looked at the group of rowdy college kids.

"Honestly... We gotta do it!" A girl with a ponytail raised her fist and others joined in.

"I can't believe we'll actually get to go into 'the' abandoned hospital that's the talk of the media right now!" A cute girl was jumping in her seat almost knocking over her water.

"Is it legal?" There was a long pause, everyone was looking at the man in glasses for an answer. He raised his hands and shook his head.

"Nope!" This seemed to make them even more rowdier. "But, anyone who wants to chicken out right now please raise your hand..." No one moved. In the next table other the other members of the group were fussing a bit but no one raised their hand.

"Alright! It's settled. We'll be going into the 'place' two days from now. Be sure to be prepared. We'll be camping there for two days and two nights."

"Yahoo!"

"Lets go buy our stuff!" The group dispersed into the open mall around them. In the second table a group of three girls were still seated. The man in glasses walked over and sat down.

"What's up Amy?" The girl in the middle flinched and started to panic. She waved her hands but no words came out. A girl next to her laughed awkwardly.

"It's nothing Alex! Amy is just too excited to be going to the 'place'. Right Nora?" The girl turned to her friend and gave signals with her eyes.

"A-ah yeah. There's no problem here Alex. Amy's going to go so everything's fine. Thanks for your consideration." She beamed him a smile and he nodded.

"Alright. Remember, we leave in two days." Alex got up and walked away. Amy breathed out loudly.

"What are you guys doing?!" She wanted to raise her hand to opt out on going but they both held her arms down and stopped her from saying no.

"Come on Amy, this is a chance of a lifetime! Alone with Alex, for two whole days~" Nora made kissy faces at Amy.

"Yeah. Maybe with this you'll find the courage to confess." Kate said.

"When I'm dead. Didn't you guys hear about the suicide a week ago? Two men and a female were found in the abandoned hospital. All of them hung themselves on the third floor but none of them had feet."

"The reports said that it was wild dogs that ate the feet since they were so low."

"But only the feet! And how would wild dogs get up to the third floor?! It doesn't make sense. They also found one of their cars on the other side near the old park." Nora grabbed Amy's shoulders.

"Amy. If you want to go after Alex you need to take risks. Besides, there's no such things as ghosts."

"I hope you're right..." Amy hung her head as they left the cafe.

The two days of preparation passed without a hitch. On the actual day four people had to leave early due to circumstances. Changing their numbers from sixteen to twelve.

Amy boarded the rented bus along with Nora and Kate. Alex sat in the driver's seat counting the number of people. After counting twelve, himself included, he looked at the other in the bus.

"Are you kids ready for a field trip?" This got him a few "whoos" and "stop messing around" from the others. He closed the doors and drove to the abandoned hospital.

It took them three hours of driving to get to the abandoned hospital from Follorn City. When they arrived the sun was overhead and it was already the afternoon.

Amy woke up to Nora's shaking.

"Amy, we're here." Groggy she wiped her eyes and saw the creepy building. Tall and old the empty broken windows gave the impression that she was being watched but thousands of eyes. All over the walls moss and vines grew on the brick. A part of the left wall caved in revealing a surgical room with rusted medical beds and old papers strewn everywhere.

*Ahem* "Everyone! I have a fun announcement!" Everyone looked to Alex. He had both hands up like a pastor and people stopped talking instantly. "In my hands is a blueprint of the building's floors." He brought out three more blueprints. "One for each floor, including the basement." After he said basement the crowd began to rumble with energy.

"He said there's a basement!"

"Dude! This is going to be epic!"

Amy shuddered. Basement. In most horror movies it's usually the basement where the evil things come from. Kate slapped Amy's back.

"Wh-!" Amy jumped. "Kate!" She snickered and patted her reassuringly.

"It's to help you get your mind off of being paranoid." Alex cleared his throat and continued his instructions.

"We'll form four groups of three. Get into groups and when you have go to Harry so he can record down who's with who." After a few minuets of shuffling and shifting the four groups were established. Amy, Nora and Kate would obviously be a group.

"Good! Let's start exploring!" People brought out cameras and cell phones. Some had crosses and garlic. Seems Amy wasn't the only one who was scared.

They circled around and went in through another decaying part of the building where the wall collapsed. The dusty light filtered through the cracked windows and holes in the walls. Amy clung to Nora and Kate. Their every step echoing in the impossibly long hallways. It helped that the group behind them was trying to film a video for youtube so their talking helped fill the eerie silence.

The groups explored the the whole first floor. Each split as they liked and more than once Amy was scared by rats or the occasional raccoons. The hours passed quickly and without the sunlight, the abandoned hospital became even more terrifying. Long shadows played tricks on your eyes, sounds started sounding like words and the shadows stared looking like people.

As Amy's group was looking around a medical room someone shouted.

"Guys! Come over to Dr. Heinz's room!" People rushed over and sometime they were scared by each other. Ten minuets later and everyone gathered in a battered office.

"What's up Carl?" Alex moved to the front of the group.

"Yo Alex. We were looking in this dude's office and Spence here took a picture of your blueprints and look here." They boys shoved a bookshelf over and revealed a bare wall.

"What are you getting at?"

"Just wait. Listen." Carl beckoned Alex over and they both pressed their ears against the wall. Though it was faint there was something wailing. Long and low wails echoed in the walls.

"Whoa." Alex backed away.

"I know right? But that's not the best part yet." Carl led everyone to the cafeteria on the first floor and everyone surrounded the kitchen. The light from their flashlights bounding back at them and trailing on the walls.

"Carl?" Amy was worried. Being in the kitchen meant being in the deepest part of the hospital. He waved people over to another wall. This time he knocked on a wall that had lingering pan hooks and aprons on the floor.

Thud thud.

The noise echoed a bit.

"It's hollow." Alex stepped forward and began to examine it. It wasn't flimsy but it wasn't so strong that one couldn't break it.

"Step back." A big man came out.

"Jack."

"Wassup?" He flexed a bit before forming a fist with his hand and punching the wall. Though it got a bit dusty no one minded. The possibility of a hidden area excited them too much. Punch after punch, Jack opened a bit of the wall each time. Finally it was big enough for the others to help pry some off as well. Amy looked on helplessly, her paranoia of someone watching them never left her. Even when she was surrounded by so many people. The bad feeling stayed with her.

When the dust had cleared there was a tall door revealed. It's steel shine looked almost brand new. The hinges hadn't rusted either. Alex looked at the blueprints and began laughing.

"Ha ha! We found a secret area! There's nothing like this in the blueprints. What if we're about to discover a secret that the hospital had?" Everyone was buzzing with excitement. Whispers about theories and what could be behind it started to rotate. Some though that it was the emergency money vault others believe that it was where the unknown patients are sent to. Nevertheless, it was one hell of a find.

"Are we really going in?" Amy's small voice seemed to be heard through everyone's excited talk. The girl with a ponytail walked over and patted Amy's shoulder.

"It's okay Amy. We have all these strong hunks with us right?" She turned towards the men and they in turn began to flex and show off except a few. This got a couple of laughs and lightened the mood a bit but Amy was still unsure.

"What are we waiting for? Let's go!" Spence opened the doorknob and surprisingly it opened easily. He stumbled down the steep steps but waved for the others to follow.

"Wait, Spence. Take this string and tie it to you. We don't want to lose anyone." Alex pulled out some string from his back pocket and handed it to Spence.

"Nice thinking Alex!" He took the string and tied it around his waist, handing the rest to Alex. "I'll be going first!" Alex disappeared into the dark stairs, the darkness swallowing even his flashlight. One by one they lined up to get tied and descended one by one.

Next to Amy, Kate was shaking a lot. Her legs almost giving out when Nora bumped into her.

"Kate, what's wrong?" Nora caught Kate, concern on her face.

"I-it's nothing. Just a little tired. I'll go last if that's okay with you guys..." The people around made some jokes but most didn't mind. She smiled weakly in thanks and waited for everyone to filter down the steps.

Amy was concerned about Kate so she chose to be second to last while Nora was before her.

"Thanks for staying with me..." Kate leaned against Amy.

"It's what friends are for." Nora waved at them and started going down the steps.

"I guess it's your turn." With most of the lights gone Amy's single light only casted ominous shadows that danced on the walls of the kitchen. Kate's face looked dangerously pale, or it could have been the light.

"I'll be going now. Come down quickly, ok?"

"Yeah." Amy waved at Kate as she walked down the steps. As soon as Amy disappeared from view Kate stood up and walked over to the string. Alex had left the roll on a pole so it could unwind as they walked, making sure they had a way back if they got lost.

Kate picked up the roll and snapped it with her hands. Then she tied it onto her waist, leaving a good amount trailing behind her. As she worked a smile was on her face, her teeth black like ivory.

Amy was making her way down slowly when from above she heard a loud slam. She wanted to go up and check but the string tying her to Nora was being pulled. At first it was just a little tug but it got stronger and stronger. For fear of breaking it or holding back the rest of the group Amy had no choice but to race down the stairs. Though they were seemingly straight soon they curved in a loop. Around and around she went. Down the stairs and into the darkness.

Behind Amy the thudding was getting louder and louder now. More urgent. Her pace quickened. She felt that if the thudding caught up with her something terrible would happen. Amy flew down the stairs. Soon she saw another light ahead and quickened her pace, forgetting that Kate was behind her.

Amy burst into the open room and suddenly regretted it. On the ceiling Spence was hanging by his organs, his mouth hung open. Hooked onto metal poles. It reminded her of how shrikes save their food for later. Blood dripped onto the floor in an irregular pattern. Amy was too shocked to notice the monster making it's way towards Amy.

"Move Amy!" From the side Alex was shouting at her. Maybe it was her feelings for him or her will to live but in the moment before the monster attacked she dashed towards Alex. The monster lunged and missed, it's body hitting the floor with a sickening splat. Amy ran with all her might and lunged into Alex's open arms. She turned to look at the monster illuminated by the other's flashlights.

It was huge, from the floor to the ceiling and almost four meters wide. Brown ooze dripped off of it while metal poles poked out from it every now and then. When it moved it sounded like a body being dragged across gravel.

"Aahh!" Kate had reached the bottom and was now face to face with the monster. Everyone froze. Time seemed to slow as the sludge like monster opened it's mouth to swallow Kate whole.

"PULL THE STRING!" Out of nowhere a gruff voice resounded in the room and Amy grabbed the rope and tugged as hard as she could. Kate was jolted by the pull and fell to the floor but her body slid easily on the blood.

"Sid!" A small figure jumped out from behind a pillar and began to slice at the sludge. Jumping and dodging it's slow attacks he easily cut off chunks. When the monster was mostly cut up he backed away. Suddenly a bright light flashed and a little girl stood before the monster, her hand outstretched to it.

Amy was about to scream for her to move but then the monster suddenly started to expand inside of it's own skin. Eventually it exploded and splattered everywhere. It's brown sludge clung to the ceilings and walls. The room quickly filled with a nauseating smell.

A man wrapped in various cloths came and whacked all the lights from people's hands.

"H-hey! What the fuck man!?" He turned and loomed over them, the stern gaze in his eyes allowing no rebuttal.

"No light." He continued to whack people's flashlights from their hands and when they refused to hand it over the old man used his stick to pierce it while they were holding it. The small boy came over and re-smashed the broken lights on the floor. Some tried to ask why but the little boy only said,

"No light." The little girl on the other hand just stood where she had killed the monster. After all the lights had been destroyed, phones and everything that lit up included, the old man sighed and sat down. They though that there would be total darkness but with the absence of their light the green light from the surroundings glowed gently. It wasn't as clear as their lights but it didn't cast any ominous shadows either.

"Hey old man! What the fuck was that, that thing! It killed Spence!" Jack was rushing over to the old man when the string tying him to the others pulled him back and them forward. The old man saw this and shook his head.

"Cut string. Live longer." He threw a knife at Jack's feet. Jack picked it up and instantly dropped it. The handle had been squishy and warm, like flesh. The blade was clear like glass but not as fragile but, what scared him the most was the small human face that bit him on the hilt.

"Y-you fucking crazy old man! What the fuck is that?" Jack held his hand, a little drop of blood pooling from the small bite.

"Oops. Wrong blade. Oh well. D4,your reading?" The old man looked at the blade and it started to move towards the old man.

"Weak. No power. Dumb. No good." Jack was about to sock the old man when he realized that the blade just talked.

"W-wha-!" The old man tackled Jack.

"Down. Sid, Diana. Retreat." The old man got up and began running. Jack didn't know what to do but people were already running with the old man. He was being pulled along by the others. No one knew who he was but they had killed that monster so, he must be strong. If he were to run then only something stronger would make that happen. Meaning that if he ran they'd have no chance.

As they ran Amy found that the walls looked familiar somehow. When they passed a room with an open door she saw a bed and chart. Then it hit her that it are was similar to the hospital. Except the halls were too wide and the rooms too far apart. Little blue orbs lit up one side of the hall. The old man seemed to be following them. Soon they reached a room where the blue orbs stopped.

"Safe." He went inside and the others followed him. The last to arrive was Amy and Kate as they were the last in the tie.

Inside there was a girl with lots of knives and another boy with his eyes bandaged.

"Cut string." The old man handed Alex a different knife. Since he went after Spence did he was the new starter when the sludge melted the string before. It looked like a small surgical knife. He quickly cut his string and handed it down. When all the strings were cut Alex handed the knife back to the old man.

"Me, Keff. Sid. Diana. Dee. Owen." The old man introduced the other people in the room.

"I'm Owen, the seer of this group. I know it's a lot to take in but please don't panic."

"My name is Kayla. Can I just as where are we?" The ponytail girl squatted next to Owen.

"In time. But first, I need you to all touch the person next to you. If there's anything strange tell me now."

When Amy touched Kate's hands she couldn't help but note how cold they were. In her mind she though that it was probably because Kate was scared so she decided not to say anything about it. This decision of hers would spark something irreversible in their lives. Should she be given the chance to go back would she have changed her decision or kept it the same?
