I slide down to the floor and take several deep breaths. The crawler beats against the door causing me to jump and crawl further away. It was a mistake opening that door... But it's true. There must be a way to get back...
I slowly push myself back up and make my way to my bag I left by the wall. I collapse against the wall and pull the bag to me. I unzip it and pull out a bottle of water. I drink half the bottle before I realize what I'm doing.
I sigh and put it away. I only have three bottles... I need to save them. I have no idea how long I'll be here... Suddenly there's a loud bang on the locked door causing it to shake. That was too much for the Crawler... suddenly I think back to the answering calls I heard before and feel myself sigh.
"Great job Maya... can you make any more awesome choices today? You seem to be on a roll..." I say leaning against the cool wall. I can hear them out there... crawling on and around the temple. I was completely surrounded.
I look into my bag and sigh again. I have clothes, a few granola bars, a few water bottles and my equipment I was going to use on the cell tower. I zip up the bag and put it on the floor next to me. I look back to the door and thank my lucky stars that it's strong enough to hold them back.
Maybe I can outwait them... maybe. I push the bag farther away and lay down using it as a pillow. I need to think of a plan... A plan to get me out of here alive. I turn onto my back and look at the glowing walls.
Suddenly I sit up and freeze. I rub my eyes and look again but nothing changes, I wasn't seeing things! I could really read the writing! No way... I push up and stand by the wall in wonder. I scan over the words and find myself smiling. "Yes!!" I say walking up closer to the wall.
This is what we've needed... I look around for the beginning only to realize it's all the way up at the top of the ceiling. "How am I supposed to get up there to read that?" I mumble but suddenly the words come flying at me.
I watch in wonder when the words fly past me and through me as they place themselves on the ground. My smile grows as I become excited. "Thank you.." I say out loud. I'm not sure if someone or something is listening but just in case I feel like I should be polite.
I look at the golden words on the ground and begin reading. I don't know how long this will take but at the moment I'm willing to stay as long as I need to learn what I can. Who needs a book when you have the library!
After several hours, I've read over half of the words on the ground. This world was called Everlise and the people here came from magic. It was a magical place full of kingdoms and people who can use magic. The creatures here were just as magical but something happened.
According to what I've read so far a virus of some kind began to spread, killing the plant life and mutating the animals and the people. They did there best to stop the spread of the virus but they couldn't do it. It was too strong, too fast.
Those who weren't strong enough died while the ones that remained began to mutate. The powerful people in control began looking for a new world. If they could find one similar to the one they had now then they could take the remaining people there.
They did indeed find a world like this one but it already had people. They decided to go anyway to save what was left of them only it didn't happen the way they thought it would. They created the key to open a door to the new world but as soon as they did the creatures that had mutated began pushing their way to the door leading to the new world.
Out of panic they quickly shut the door but lost the key in the process. They fought their way out and only had a few hundred of them left. They decided not to make another key. They wouldn't run to another world because the beast would surely follow.
They made a decision to stay and fight. They would learn everything they can about the virus and find a cure. They were known as the last stand. After years of research, they began to make these temples all over this world for others to learn of the same things they have in hopes of someone putting a stop to it.
