I hold the egg in my arms as Alec and Chip watch with eagerness and excitement. I think it's safe to say that everyone was excited to see what was in the egg. Every time the egg would move, excitement would bubble up inside me.
Suddenly, the first crack is seen! I want to help break the egg away but Chip yells "STOP!! You can't help it! Everything I've read online says that it needs to do this on its own. Only intervene if the animal in the egg starts showing signs of distress."
I stare at Chip for several seconds before saying "How do you know if it's in distress?" Chip blinks several times before saying "I don't know... but it just started to hatch so let it try on its own. He needs to be strong to survive in this world!"
