Chapter 7 - The beast of Memphis, part 2

The beast let lose a mighty stomp, causing the surrounding earth to be kicked up, creating a dust cloud, covering the area as it settled. A crator formed around me, I had stopped it just in time, blood dripped from my mouth I pushed the leg aside I wiped the blood away, black and white lightning surrounded me, I grabbed my sword and slashed the leg clean off. The beast's green blood splattered everywhere, as it stumbled for balance I jumped and landed on its back, running towards its head. I jumped off its shoulder and threw my katana at the colour spot on his chin, it let out a huge yell and slowly sank to the floor. Relieved, I slumped, exhaustion taking over, the world around me turning black...

Next thing I knew I woke up in what seemed to be a palace bedroom. Slither and Camo were sleeping next to me. The room was massive, filled with antique furniture, the walls were papered in rich brocade and plush velvet curtains hung around the balcony doors. I tucked the children in before I went outside to Train, Yama and Paschar were waiting.

"So you haven't kicked the bucket?" Yama asked sarcastically,

"No" I replied,

I started to do sit-ups.

"How long was I out," I asked them,

"About 3 days" Paschar answered,

The clouds parted to reveal a breathtaking moonlit sky, stars glistening like a river of diamonds flowing effortlessly. Quickly a face appeared in my mind, a young girl about 12, with long shimmering black hair, and emerald green eyes, she smiled coyly, then the image vanished as quickly as it appeared.

Suddenly, Camo came rushing outside and launched himself at me.

"You're alright, I'm so glad!" he shouted, muffled in my shoulder, Slither soon followed suit.

"I am fine. Go back to bed and I will be there in a minute" I said. They went back inside and before following them to bed, I looked back at the moon for an instant.

The next morning I was woken up by a banging on the door.

"Come in!" I yelled.

A dozen guards marched in with their armour rattling and clanging, Camo and Slither were remarkably still asleep.

They formed two lines. A few seconds later in came the king, followed by two women one looked to be the queen and the other a princess. she looked my age about 18, she had wavy long blond hair and beautiful sparkling blue eyes.

"Are you the hero who saved my city?" asked the king,

"I, think so" I replied,

"Might I thank you for saving my city, this city has been under constant attack from beasts, with this being the worst one yet. Unfortunately, I have a feeling the attacks are going to get even worse, but enough about my problems. How can I repay you?" The king offered kindly.

"Can I think about it?"

"Yes, however you need to decide in the next five days, as I want to thank you publicly at the full moon ceremony." The king announced, turning on his heels, his wife and daughter walked behind him and finally the guards did an about turn and rattled out much the way they had entered.

Soon after they left Slither and Camo woke up to find me reading about a new spell, called great lightning beast. It summoned the silhouette of a magical beast, depending on the amount of mana used, it could summon anything from a mouse sized beast to a mighty dragon.

At about 9:30, there was another knock on the door, some servants came in with some food. I was expecting it to be rich and aromatic but unfortunately, we were on rations. The beast had demolished the warehouse, so all we had was some strips of dried meat with a few measly berries. The meat was tough and chewy and the berries were so sour we could barely swallow them.

When the servants returned to collect our plates, I asked for some training equipment, which they provided me with and so I spent a few hours training before dinner. It was the same as lunch so boring and frankly almost inedible. After Slither and Camo went to bed I finished reading about the spell and fell asleep.
