Chapter 9 - The Ring of Voices and The Gem of Authority

Seeing that the village army is doing well, It is just a matter of time before the trolls would be wiped out.

'Though they are just village soldiers, you can't underestimate their strength.' Pedro was focused on an infantry soldier who was able to block an attack from the troll.

'Sigh. It seems like there is no need for me to worry anymore! Since I have nothing to do, I might as well check my loots.' Pedro accessed the interface and went to his inventory.

He got two skill books, a ring, a red crystal, and two gold coins.

"This..." Pedro sucked his breath. It was the two gold coins that shocked him.

Players doing quest will reward them with approximately 30 bronze coins. Some quests may provide or reward some silver coins but it is not enough for players to gain a single gold coin.

At a normal rate, It would take him days to be able to get a gold coin. Hence, the two gold coins made Pedro the richest player at Bearth!

The gold farming teams still don't exist in the game because Bearth is only on its closed beta version.

The coins, weapons, and equipment gained would be reset by the game developers to be fair with the new players on the official launch. This was the reason why gold farming never existed in a closed beta version of AVR games.

"Should I buy something? I'd just decide on that when the time comes." He sighed as he checked the other loots. He took the ring and inspected it.

"Eh? When did such an effect exist? Was this some plot of the developers?" He frowned.

'Such a waste! If I got this ring during the official version, I could have sold it and earned some gold coins.' Pedro shook his head as he equipped the light green colored ring.

"Humans! I~kill you all!" Pedro jumped from shock after hearing a loud voice from the last remaining troll.

When he looked at the direction of the source of the voice, He saw the troll commander. It was heavily wounded.

'Awesome! This ring is awesome. I can even understand what the troll was saying.' Pedro grinned.

'The attributes are disappointing but its special effect is awesome!'

"Retreat!" Captain Aks commanded the infantry soldiers. They immediately ran back leaving the troll commander, who was on its knees.

"Archers! Ready!" The archers pulled their bows and aimed at the troll commander.

"The King will learn about this! You're dead, HUMANS!" The troll commander shouted its 'last words'. But before he could react, Captain Aks once again shouted.

"Fire!"

Arrows rained in the body of the troll commander.

"Thud."

The body of the troll commander dropped on the ground. The infantry soldiers dropped their swords and shield on the ground.

Some took a sit as they sighed of relief. They were exhausted after taking blow after blow from the trolls. Their shields were too damage to be used again. Some of them even had a broken arm.

~~~~~~~
'A King? Who? From some Kingdom? There is no point in thinking about it.' Pedro stared at the dead troll commander.
'I can extract some materials from the trolls, but... The villager might become suspicious of me if I do that.'
"Sigh. There is nothing important from their dead bodies anyway. I guess I can only pass on that idea." Pedro shook his head.
"Adventurer! Thank you for your aid. I heard from Chief Antonio that you were the one who saved the two madams. Without your help, there was no assurance that the two madams would still be alive. Likewise, casualties among the soldiers would be higher! If you ever need my help in the future, don't hesitate to approach me!" Captain Aks smiled at Pedro.
"It's nothing Captain Aks, I am an adventurer! Though my goal is to explore the world, Helping other humans with my strength and knowledge is a small thing." Pedro smiled back.
Deep inside he was very happy. To gain the favor of an NPC is a good thing.
"Well then, I need to go. We need to clean the mess and tend to the needs of those who are injured." Captain Aks turned around and walk to the other soldiers who were waiting for him to report something.
"Young adventurer, I should head back to the village now! When you return to the village don't forget to visit me!" Antonio appeared behind Pedro and tapped his shoulder.
"I will. Have a safe trip back to the village." Pedro responded to Antonio who was already meters away from him. Antonio smiled as he waved goodbye to Pedro.
After Antonio left, Pedro was by himself. He glanced left and right, thinking of things he may do since he was already in that area.
'Hmm. I should rest for a bit?'
Pedro took a sit. He leaned on a tree while watching the village soldiers clean up the area. His attention was coincidentally shifted to the corpse of the troll commander.
'Should I tell the Village Chief about what the troll commander said? It's not a good idea. Explaining it to him would be troublesome. Besides... I can't tell him about the ring. It might seem like a trash item for players, but for NPCs... that might not be the case.'
While he was in deep thought, a wild idea came upon his mind.
"If the troll commander is dead... Then, does it mean that there were no trolls left on that camp?" Pedro's heart began pounding of excitement.
"I should use this chance to slip past through this crowd." Pedro smiled as he started walking back to the trolls' camp.
While walking, he remembered the other loots he had. His attention was caught by the ring to the point that he forgot about the other loots.
'Right. I haven't checked the skill books and the red crystal.'
Pedro opened his interface and checked the red crystal first.
"Dang! Such a waste. If this was just the official version of the game! No worries. Though everything would be reset on the official release of the game, I could only do my best and get this in the future." He placed the gem back to his inventory.
