They have been walking for exactly 2 days. Edward refuses to use transportation as it would put Marguerite in danger, and he isn't confident he would be able to protect her from everyone. Maybe he is slightly paranoid, but he would rather be safe than sorry.
By now, the beautiful mountain they are heading for is already in sight, seeming as if they will arrive at its foot any minute now. Edward feels slightly elated, but at the same time axious. He isn't sure why, but he feels as if he is about to part very soon, which makes zero sense.
Marguerite barely ate through that time. Edward has to force-feed her most of the time, giving him a headache. It also makes him unhappy knowing that Marguerite is slowly giving up on her own life. It gives him anxiety and fear, but there's nothing he can do about it.
