Marguerite can only look with wide eyes and an open mouth towards the gigantic black snake. Frozen in place, unable to move forward despite the screech in her brain. Her inner voice tells her that she must move, that she must reach out to him and save him.
But she can't move. She is frozen in place. She doesn't know if it's the snake immobilising her or her own anxiety sticking her in place, but the fact remains that she cannot budge an inch.
The snake's scales slowly detach from its black body. Marguerite feels like everything is in slow-motion. Jurian doesn't have time to run, his feet are already off the sand and going towards the opposite direction, but as if frozen in time, he doesn't go fast enough.
Marguerite can't hear a thing. Her ears are deafened, the world around her feels unreal. As if this is just a simulation, a movie she somehow got too entranced in.
