Edward stays silent. Freedom. He once yearned for that more than anything. But now he can only stay bounded by chains, yet it's ironically those chains that allow him to stand tall in front of adversity.
"Why?"
Aine isn't sure if the question is directed at her. She stays silent for a while.
The silence befalls them and only their calm breaths ring through their ears. Eventually, she speaks.
"I like him."
Edward looks at her confused, like who? Armel?
He looks at her with a scrutinizing gaze, hoping to be wrong.
"If you want to be free, I can erase the debt you owe me."
Aine would have rejoiced if she heard that in the past. But not now. She has a different desire now.
"I don't want to make it convenient for you."
She smirks mockingly, trying to get under his skin. But Edward is unfazed.
"Back then you made a mistake. If it weren't for me, you would be dead."
