It's been two months.
Marguerite silently eats her food while browsing her feed, jolly and her mind off of the recent troubles she went through. The light is shining through the fast-food window onto her small table, making the tip of her fingers glisten from the fries' oil.
Unexpectedly, Chad happens to frequent the same restaurant. He enters the place unknowingly and is immediately perturbed by the first thing he sees.
Marguerite is in her gym clothes, her figure alluring as always. A small smile adorns her lips as if she never went through a break-up in the first place. Scrolling on her phone, she's like enveloped in a halo of light, her hair in a high ponytail with no strand out of place, her skin glossy with no imperfection on it. The sight blinds him momentarily, and he clutches his chest abruptly.
Why does he suddenly feel pained? Regret washes over him as he quietly exits the food place, no longer having an appetite.
Marguerite, ignorant of the struggles of her ex, continues to mind her own business and browse social media when suddenly, she spots a weird thread on the subreddit "glitch in the matrix".
It read: One day, I stumbled upon a weird-looking cat; it was blue and watery like a river. The tips of his ears were white and his fur was soft and shiny. I had never seen a cat like that, so I reached out my hand to pet it. This was in Strasbourg mind you. The cat smelled good which made me wonder if it didn't have an owner. I started speaking in a high-pitch voice as you do when you talk to cute animals: Hey little cutie!!! Where do you come from XD? It was so adorable so I started squealing. The cat looked at me like I was crazy, then it touched my forehead with its paw. I didn't move because it was so cute. The paw was so soft and small. Suddenly it felt warm and soothing. I think I fell asleep or something because I suddenly heard a little boy's voice say: Not good enough.
After that, the cat walked away, and I didn't feel the urge to follow it. It turned at a corner, and I never saw it again. It's not exactly your typical story here on this sub, but I didn't know any other subreddit where this would fit. Anyways I bought a cat after that.
The post has 12 likes and 1 comment from a bot. She shakes her head in disappointment that people would go so far for karma points. There's no way the cat was blue. It probably looked blue under the light or something, and the "voice" was probably a weird noise, or the wind blowing. People have no scruple lying.
She switches to twitter and grabs another fry before dipping it in garlic sauce. She stays for another 20 minutes before leaving in a jog.
After showering and relaxing, Marguerite lays in bed in her nightgown and opens her laptop. After checking her emails, she quickly feels a bit curious about that thread she read at the fast-food place. It stayed at the back of her mind until now. Very wantonly, she opens Reddit and looks for the post. Fortunately, it received quite a bit of attention the past few hours and was quite easy to find.
With 15k likes and 5k comments, it quickly became the top thread on the platform. Marguerite stays stunned on her bed as she questions what she is seeing. How can such a ludicrous story get so many likes? She has never seen a post get 15k like in a few hours on Reddit. Redditors are also the meanest and harshest people on the internet, if you say anything that sounds slightly fake or questionable, you will get roasted until you wish you could delete your account. She quickly looks at the comments and is extremely surprised by what she reads:
OMG! I thought I was crazy! The exact thing happened to me the other day. A blue cat with white-tipped ears!
A saw the exact same cat and heard the same voice say the same thing. Could there be a conspiracy?
It's an alien escaped from Area 51 guys!!!! This is awesome! We have to catch it!
What if it's trying to find a good human to bring back to its planet and experiment on! This is scary.
Are you guys for real? Is there a new trolling trend going on? Is it going to be the Maximilian era type of thing?
We all saw the same cat? I live in Australia! How can the same cat be in France and Australia in the span of a few days? Did it travel by plane lol.
...
Marguerite doesn't know what to feel about this. She switches to Instagram but finds the same post screenshotted and cross-posted everywhere. She can already imagine all the YouTubers going nuts on this by tomorrow morning.
Not in the mood for all this hype, she opens Netflix and watches izombie.
