"Enough!" Lucas interrupted the assistant's report, realizing that they were far from uncovering the truth about Seryne Hanes. "This report barely scratches the surface. It's inadequate. But for now, let's refocus on our work; there's no point in continuing anyways."
Assistant Xeon understood his boss's frustration. The lack of information about Seryne Hanes, the investment company owner, had proven to be a major roadblock.
What was intriguing to him was that his boss who had appeared after 4 long years without any information about where he went was suddenly very interested in this Seryne Hanes who may be quite a bigwig in the industry but was still only considered a talent as her company was still far from being the best in the business world.
However, Lucas's phone rang, and he put on his earpiece, bracing himself for what he knew was coming – the voices of his friends who were equally curious about Seryne's background.
"Lucas White!" the voices shouted in unison, showing their displeasure at his attempts to investigate Seryne.
"Calm down, I was just playing," Lucas tried to reason with his friends. "What's there to take offense?"
The friends, known for their unpredictable conversations, continued their banter.
"Lucas, man, you're digging yourself into a hole!" one of them exclaimed, followed by a chorus of agreement.
"Yeah, you shouldn't have even tried!" another chimed in, clearly amused by the situation.
Lucas sighed, listening to their animated chatter. "But what's the problem guys? I just wanted to know more about her. It's not like I was spying on her or anything."
"Not spying? You think you can? You also know the results for your investigation and we know as well. Sery in not someone you can easily get to know more about." One of them playfully scolded. "Let's get back to the point. What's our next move?"
"Jen, say something!" another friend urged, eager to stir the conversation in a different direction.
"What is there to say? Do you think Sery will let this go? It's a waste of time even trying to complain to him. He'll get his lesson soon," Jen quipped, causing laughter among the group.
Lucas knew that trying to reason with this group was often futile, but he cherished their camaraderie. But he started doubting it seeing them speculate about what his lesson will be. "Yeah, I wonder what Sery's planning. Anyways, whatever it is, it'll be fun."
"Are you guys done?" Lucas interrupted them, knowing that they were now going to start gossiping and jumping topics like they usually do. He couldn't understand how he could be friends with these five extreme personalities, but he appreciated the bond .
As the banter continued, Lucas began to feel a twinge of irritation. He'd tried to find out more about Seryne for a valid reason. However, their unwavering support of her privacy was starting to get on his nerves. He decided to put an end to the conversation.
"Okay, guys, enough of this. I'm trying to focus on something important here," Lucas said, his tone showing his growing frustration.
" Focussing on Sery?" His friend being the people who knew him knew that this matter was not simple and may not end so easily.
"Seriously asking. What is you motive? You know motive may sound bad but we know what Seryne has been through and we don't want her to lose a friend." Another one said getting a little serious as they needed to ensure that none of their friends would get hurt in this.
"If I tell you, you all may abandone me....."
Lucas knew Seryne held a special position in their hearts many will be shocked to know that He and Seryne had the same friend circle what was even more shocking was that they themselves were virtual friends about which he found out only recently.
While he was hesitating an indifferent voice sounded from the other side, " Abandone you for loving her?"
Hearing this Lucas was quite shocked as he had thought that no one knew but now that he found out that his friends knew but still did not say it. His feelings became a little complicated. "Don't worry. Liking or loving anyone is your choice, as friends we are going to support you as long as you are not destroying yourself. And over that Sery is such a charm, all of us have problems handling our hearts near her. In comparison you are still quite new."
"So you allow me to woo her? " Lucas asked uncertain of the truth in what he had he dad heard.
He had never thought that getting a yes from them would be so easy. After all they all have been very protective of Seryne from like always.
"Woo her?? You think you can ? Let's get this straight Lucas White, Seryne is not someone you can woo just because you like her or you got our permission. Her permission is the most important factor and as much as I know someone can't even look in her eyes for more than 20 seconds." Maira poured cold water on him as she pulled him back to rationalality and reality.
"Lucas, we all know you like her but I want you to know that Seryne is not going to accept you anytime soon. And I guess you know why right??" Vennesa knew that whatever was going to happen was going to be hard on both Lucas and Seryne.
