3 days. It's been three days since I tried to escape. Apparently, according to Verren who had come to visit once a day to check on my recovery, Daniel had been killed after jumping from a window in a bid to escape, only to fall to death on the ground below. He also joked that Daniel made quite a good treat and chew toy for the hounds so he wasn't all that displeased with the outcome. Right now though, it's just me and the elf in the room together, silent while she heals me.
[Elf] "alright, that should be enough for you to speak. Try it."
[Kai] "
My jaw began moving after the slightly muffled spell and started to fix itself to the bewilderment of the elf girl. My jaw felt much better now and I didn't even get a headache thanks to the meditation I did whilst being healed which seems to have further increased my mp as I've taken to calling it.
[Kai] "ah, that's much better."
[Elf] "wha-how-huh?"
[Kai] "you saw my abilities three days ago. I'm full of surprises. Though, try to take advantage of that, I will kill you."
[Elf] "eh? You have one hell of a trust issue there kid."
[Kai] "I know. And I'd prefer you didn't call me kid."
[Elf] "you're a kid even by human standards."
I wonder how she would react if I told her I was actually over twenty years old. At least, mentally.
[Elf] "I suppose we should call that vampire in here."
[Seyird] "no need. He has already been informed."
[Elf] "wha-?! Don't, scare me like that!"
[Seyird] "apologies, but lord Verren is on his way."
As if on queue, the man in question walked through the door with a disgustingly happy look on his face.
[Kai] "wh-"
Thinking about it now, I should probably put a hold on taunting the man who put someone that knows a being similar to a god personally in what equates to the hospital for three days.
[Verren] "I've heard you're able to speak again. Were you about to ask me something?"
[Elf] "I think he wants to know why you're so happy all of a sudden."
When did these two get so close?
Verren gave a wide grin when he heard the elves question.
[Verren] "hehe, well, my daughter Lucile, just told me that she was able to speak to someone for the first time in a very long time. And not just that, but the way she spoke about him!"
He's become a doting father all of a sudden... wait, Lucile? Talk to someone for the first time?... shit, I need to change the topic fast before he puts two and two together.
[Kai] "so, about that deal?"
[Verren] "hm? Ah right, there was that wasn't there. So, what is it you promised?"
[Kai] "I can show you now if I can get a glass of wa-"
I was cut of by Verren holding out a glass of water in front of my face. Well, better get this over with then, I hope this works.
I closed my eyes and held the glass of water tightly in my hands while picturing the process in my mind. The water getting thicker, changing colour, the plasma, the minerals, the red and white blood cells as well as a few other things.
[Kai] "
I opened my eyes and hoped. A second passed, then a few more seconds of nothing until finally, from the bottom of the glass up, the water began to change. The originally clear liquid became a thick red.
[Elf & Verren] "you- you turned water into blood?!"
[Kai] "looks like it."
[Verren] "I suppose all we need to do now is test it."
[Kai] "okay."
I took a big gulp of the red liquid. Reckless? Maybe a little. But if it works then that makes me look much more confident in my abilities than I really am. The taste, by the way, is metallic and not very nice. Yeah, this is blood. I handed Verren the glass.
[Kai] "that's blood. You guys like that stuff?"
[Verren] "not particularly but when it's a necessity, you get used to it."
[Kai] "fair enough."
Verren took a sip of the liquid much to Seyirds visible dismay. I actually think that's the first time I've seen him make any facial expression other than disdain since I met him.
[Verren] "haha, well then, I suppose we should talk about what this deal entails in more detail now."
[Kai] "the El-fae is allowed to leave. I'll supply as much blood as I am capable of, I will not interfere with matters in this place or converse with any other vampires."
[Verren] "alright, you can go now."
He directed his attention to the elf and she immediately bowed and began to leave the room, but not before turning back one last time.
[Elf] "my name is Clarissa by the way. Not elf. I'll let you off with it because you saved my life but I'd say we're even now. Good bye."
[Kai] "yeah. See ya."
She left and now it's just me, Verren and Seyird in this room together. I felt weird lying down this whole time so I decided it best if I at least sat up while talking to them.
[Verren] "Is that all you want? It seems like you don't really get much out of this."
[Kai] "I get to live. But, if I can ask for one thing?"
[Verren] "go on."
[Kai] "I think there's a way I could improve the blood I'll be giving you."
[Verren] "oh?"
[Kai] "for that, I need to run some tests."
My magic isn't omnipotent. I need knowledge if I want to improve and, what I'm going to ask for is also a little way for me to really get some payback for that girl.
[Verren] "what kind of tests?"
[Kai] "the kind where I would need a live subject. Lors."
Verren seemed surprised at this, if only for the fact that I knew his name. Perhaps he was just now realising that I hadn't simply walked in there by accident but was actually targeting the bastard.
[Verren] "alright. It's a deal, though, I'll have someone watching over you to make sure you don't overstep your boundaries."
[Kai] "with a request like that, I appreciate your leniency and I'll be sure to improve the blood as soon as possible."
[Verren] "good. Now, Seyird, take him to the water storage room. We won't be needing it anymore if this works."
[Seyird] "yes, milord."
Seyird motioned with ever so subtle annoyance for me to follow him.
[Verren] "I would suggest you change your eye colour again if I were you."
[Kai] "ah, thanks.
My eye colour became the same crimson blood red as seyirds. That was close, I'm honestly glad he warned me about that since I forgot about it.
[Seyird] "follow me."
[Kai] "right. By the way, you don't seem to like me very much. Is it me? Or humans in general?"
[Seyird] "both"
[Kai] "ah, well, thanks for clearing that up"
[Seyird] "you're welcome."
We continued walking for a short while in absolute silence, apart from a few vampires in the vicinity who gazed over at the unfamiliar face walking slightly behind their lords right hand man. That is until we reached a large, wooden, double door at the end of the room. The plaque next to it was faded and the area was unnervingly similar to the area near the prison. In fact, looking down the hall was, indeed, the doorway leading to the prison.
[Seyird] "the water in here was used to feed the cattle. So don't be so surprised that it's nearby."
[Kai] "ah, right."
Seyird opened the large doors with ease and ushered me inside. The room was as dark as the dungeons though it was much cleaner. Barrels filled with water lined the walls and were stacked like a winery on shelves that almost reached the ceiling.
[Kai] "how am I supposed to get those down?"
[Seyird] "that's your problem"
[Kai] "*sigh* alright, is there anything else I need to know?"
[Seyird] "you don't leave this room, Your meals will be brought to you three times a day and if you try anything I will kill you before you've realised it."
[Kai] "got it. You can leave now."
He turned almost immediately, seemingly happy that he would not have to be in my presence any longer and practically skipped out of the room.
[Kai] "time to get to work I guess."
