Ch 6
Six days later... Joseph had spent the last few days either playing the game religiously or going to bed intermittent with short bouts of painful cleansing treatments today was no exception, but because the game gave a sped up time feeling Joseph was able to spend virtually two months apart from the treatment so he spent every moment he could in the pod after six days with 3 sessions he had spent roughly 9 months in the pod getting to know how the game worked it seemed as tho he was learning at an accelerated rate as well but the game showed no warning that it would harm his mind so he spent the time he could repeatedly getting killed and rebuilding settlements trying to grow his towns and gain some experience on how to govern small groups of people he recently started sending the quietest villagers out as scouts to warn him of possible attacks this development showed that there were more developed towns nearby that would regularly send out soldiers to break down his village he learned that he was allowed to enter said towns as well and that he didn't need to build from scratch like he had done previously much like other games you start with nothing but underwear and an inventory next thing you do is gather the resources and make cloths tools etc then you started to build the main building like a town hall it attracts 1 person per day to help build up your settlement this time Joseph decided to try and be diplomatic and find a way to keep his little village from being broken apart to start from scratch again he found the city hall and made an inquiry about how to prevent his settlement from being broken apart it turned out to be simple his settlements before never paid taxes and were considered rebel factions for not being recognized as legitimate and legal citizenship of the kingdom they appeared in feeling stupid for not even considering that this could be a possibility Joseph facepalmed.
Joseph had found that he could catch all the rest his brain needed by sleeping in game instead of logging out and going to bed due to the way his mind was required to accelerate in order to process the game he figured it'd be difficult for him to play for extended periods but it turned out that he was technically asleep in the pod and the 6-8 minutes of rest real-time he spent completely asleep his mind was able to process his "day" relatively easily so there was little to no tax on his mind from playing a whole day which was extremely convenient putting his mind under 60 times the processing speed of his wakeful mind was actually good for his brain due to the fact it acclimated to said speed so when he was awake in reality he was able to think faster and clearer than what he could originally this side affect was known to all who underwent the time dilation for extended times it wasn't advertised publicly because the wealthy didn't want common people becoming as capable as their children at thinking through problems it was another show of superiority to the wealthy that they believed was only right that the wealthy be superior to the poor in as many ways as possible.
The treatment process that Joseph was going through also pushed at the edges of another sensation that seemed to open more and more as the pain receded the sense that he could tell where other people were even when he wasn't looking the treatments were obviously working faster than doctor Git had expected he now saw that only one or two more treatments were needed to complete the gene cleansing which made Joseph cry out in ecstatic happiness. Both Joseph and doctor Git were happy to see that with each treatment the level of pain Joseph experienced would decrease significantly until this last treatment which was mostly annoying and uncomfortable but nothing more than what you'd feel during a light headache or after a couple days of intense workout sessions.
Keeping anything abnormal from the doctor was one of Joseph's priorities because he felt it would work out in the end if he was somehow showing bad test results with whatever they wanted him for. Joseph was still pissed off that he'd been tricked into indentured servitude but he figured if he pretended to play along and gave faulty data that they'd release him early and just require that he pay them back which he could fight in court due to Gen-Tech willingly releasing him. In which case Joseph wouldn't be obligated to return any money upon being released and would be best because he'd already spent nearly all of it on his new in home gaming computer. Joseph figured that to be the best case scenario but worst case was that they would keep him on as a janitor till his contract was nearly up and personally it didn't matter much to Joseph so long as he could somehow stick it to these cock waffles in any way possible.
The next morning real time Joseph heard a knock at his door it was the security that escorted him to the cleansing sessions "hey guys what's going on you're not supposed to be here till tomorrow." Joseph said in an obvious show of dissatisfaction. "We're going somewhere new and you'll have to be there for a few days so no toys." The head security guard scowled and leaned in menacingly. Joseph immediately took a step back in reflex to the heavily muscled individual.
Doctor Git was wanting to express his dissatisfaction with his boss mr, Caster for pushing Joseph into the first test prematurely but to his dismay mr Henry Caster wasn't giving him the time of day it was all about the bottom dollar and never about safety and scientific advancement unless either would make him or their company more money. Doctor Git rubbed his face in frustration, why would they push for Joseph to go to the excavation site, and why would they need his dna to be so purified? the explanation they gave to the doctor was that Joseph was going to move things that were potentially dangerous if he didn't have a clean dna structure but they never let him around anything that had significance he usually sat bored waiting for the quarterly check ups but had no real information to give the resistance.
Doctor Git was suspicious that Gen-Tech didn't trust him for good reason he was here to help the resistance get a foothold on the planet Helix but he never got to do anything that helped enough to make a difference it was maddening!
How many times had Joseph been surprised in the last month because he figured he was reaching a world record for times he was either shocked or amazed in a month.
Joseph looked around at a city underneath the mountains east of silica city the buildings were massive and they looked streamlined like the ones on earth but they seemed broken down over the ages most of the intact buildings were made of what looked like stainless steal and the tarnish rust and holes implied that over time it just broke down a few buildings on the other hand were made of a white stone or plastic looking composite that was seamless and looked new they were obviously made of a much tougher substance the car Joseph had been riding in for the last hour finally stopped at one of such buildings the door had a large amount of men and women in different cloths some looking like architects and other scientists or doctors with their lab coats, one of which was walking over to them and she looked familiar "hello Joseph I had confidence that you would join us for aiding man kind advance to the next great frontier." She said. Joseph had a flood of emotions over weather to be pissed off, confused, or happy to see Carla from the club the woman who had him show up to Gentech to begin with. "Hey Carla." He finally said settling on none of these options until he had more information he wouldn't make judgments, although he was leaning towards pissed or at least disgruntled.
