Chereads / The Great Serpent / Chapter 2 - Reincarnation

Chapter 2 - Reincarnation

The place where the souls of the dead gather is unknown. People believe in reincarnation and hope to be reborn into a new and better life. Some souls have such deep ambitions and regrets that they retain some memories of their past lives. These souls always bring significant change, good and bad, directly or indirectly. Their actions are like a rock skimming on a lake, each small wave hitting another and forming new ones.

However, some souls choose to linger in the world. One such soul has ventured from an unknown planet in search of an interesting world. Its memories slowly fade, and only small fragments remain as it slowly forgets its purpose.

...

Several black-colored birds flew across the sky; a large forest underneath them looked verdant and thriving. There were many twisted, small paths between the trees. A carriage with golden straws was moving forward at a slow pace, and you could even hear the rhythmic echoes of the hooves stomping on the ground.

There was a teenager lying over the golden straws on the carriage. Judging by his appearance, he was about thirteen or fourteen years old. The teenager had short brown hair, and he had an average-looking appearance.

The teenager's eyes were closed, as though he were sleeping. The coachman at the front was driving carefully with his huge horse. The coachman seemed to try not to interrupt the teenager's dream as he tried to steer the carriage skillfully.

"Bang...."

With a loud noise, the carriage wheels toppled over a sharp stone on the road. The whole carriage shook after the collision.

"My head really hurts."

This was Zack's first thought upon waking up. It felt as if there was a cut on his head, hurting so badly that it seemed as if his skull was about to crack apart.

As his consciousness cleared, he realized he was riding on what seemed like a horse carriage. His body bounced along to the rhythm of the moving carriage, sending shockwaves through the wound. The pain was so great that he had to suck in several sharp breaths.

Opening his eyes, he surveyed his surroundings.

There were no white clouds that could be seen in the endless sky, making it seem like a borderless blue gem.

"I apologize for disrupting your sweet dream, Young Master Lu Bu. The carriage collided with a stone. The coachman turned back and apologized after he saw that Lu Bu had been woken up by the accident.

"Young Master Lu Bu?" Zack was confused. He looked around, thinking the coachman was talking to someone else, but he was the only one there.

"That's me?" He pointed his finger towards his nose.

"Yes, young master." The coachman nodded.

Suddenly, a bunch of memories flashed through Zack's mind. After organizing the new memories in his mind, Zack gained some insight about his body and this world.

The original owner of his current body was called Lu Bu Farlier, and he was the son of a noble from a great country. He had been tested and found to be gifted with the talent to become a great cultivator when he was ten years old, and know he was seventeen years old, as such, his father, Count John Farlier, made him go to the academy. The horse carriage he was currently on was traveling towards an academy.

Heaving a sigh of relief in his heart, he thought to himself, "Thank goodness I could have a better start."

Zack was a beast, but not like a general beast; in his former life, he was a mystical beast that almost became a dragon, but he was killed by humans before ascending to a higher realm.

Although he had taken over this body and even its memories, he was still very different from the original Lu Bu. His family members, who had spent years with him, would easily be able to tell the difference. If they mistook him as being possessed by a demon and perhaps begged one of those high-stage cultivators to investigate, it was extremely likely that he would be found out.

However, if he can enter an academy, he probably won't return for at least several years. By that time, any changes in behavior will be written off as par for the course. Cultivators are known to be strange and eccentric. At that point, it would be strange if he hadn't changed at all!
