Chapter 1 - Beginning

The wintry morning was cold and freezing, snow laden mountain surrounding the deep v-shaped valley, everything was bleached and natural. The streaming coffee in my hand felt warm and comforting and it was literally contradicting to the bitter weather. "To the entire passenger traveling to Thailand, we are sorry to inform you that the flight has been delayed for 30 Minutes," one of the staff announced. I had already predicted the delay of flight because the weather was extremely callous and rough.

I was elated and pumped up for the trip. It was a culture exchange program trip to Japan funded by an organization called RIGG so to enhance the friendship between countries. I could say I was darn lucky to be selected among 30 candidates. I still remember that bitter morning when I was waiting anxiously for my call, "No. 21, Please proceed for the interview," the receptionist called me. My palm was pooled with sweat as I struggled to wipe it clean on my trouser. Butterflies brewed within me as I dragged my fretful body towards the room.

The room was enormous with a large table placed centrally, the chairs were leather padded and it screamed expensive as it was arranged symmetrically facing each other. A projecting screen stood wide adjacent to the projector as it lit up to display the agenda for the interview. My throat felt parched with nervousness and I began to search for water. When I saw the filter lying next to the giant shelf placed right at the left corner, I sighed with relief. "Excuse me! Is it okay for me to have some water?" I asked apprehensively afraid of being declined. But the four interviewers who looked like they were in their mid forties were kind enough to nod their head.

I tried to maintain a proper pose as I walked conscientiously towards the filter. The translucent cup was filled to its brim and with great satisfaction I held the cup near my lips and started to drink it in proper manner. I was well aware of the interviewer eying me intently and I knew that they would judge me based on my etiquette too.

"Hello! My name is James Ken Knight and I am 24 yrs old currently working under Department of Foreign affair," I said with proper and precise English accent. I was eager beaver for this opportunity that I stopped myself from speaking nonsensical things. The interviewers were indeed experienced and they were analyzing and checking how I was tackling the raging questions.

It was a nerve wrecking experience."Thank you, we will let you know of the result," one of the interviewer said to me. I bowed down a bit as a sign of respect and headed outside. The nervousness was still vivid as I headed home, and I could clearly feel how desperate I was for this trip.

The boarding announcement brought me to reality, I grabbed my blue Samsonite suitcase on my left hand and my passport on another hand, I proceeded towards the check in counter. The plane was elephantine, rows of sets aligned orderly and indispensable emergency utilities arranged carefully and precisely. The waft smell of lavender touched my nose as I walked towards my seat. The air hostess was very kind as she routed me towards my sit. I placed my hand bag on the upper deck and prepared for the 2 hours flight to Thailand.

The land was filled with concrete structured and it looked as various Lego piece perfectly sculpted into one. There were patches of green which I assumed to be a forest area, the street was brightly ignited by the street lamp and the road was busy catering to the cars. Thailand was amazing. I really wished to roam around the free street for a whole day but I had another 4 hrs flight to Japan.

After all the security check up l I headed off to the bath room to ease myself. A golden tan skin with some freckles adorning near the nose area and a large glass covering my brownish chocolate eye, and a buff hair cut, I looked like a nerd. I towered 5 foot 8 as I looked in the mirror . I wouldn't say I am handsome but there was some traditional beauty in me that charmed everyone. In other word I could say I was charismatic that stood among every beauty and made me a sociable person. With a white polo shirt and a gray khaki pant with converse on, I really looked a carefree adventurer. I placed the glasses back to its place as it kept sliding off my nose bridge.

The water furiously gushed out from the tap as I placed my head underneath it. The soap was fragrant veritably balancing the scent of rose and saddle wood. The bubbles played well on my hand as I slowly started to rub it circularly; the fragrance was more intense as layer of foam embellish my hand. I pinned my hair to the right and smoothen the lines formed on my shirt. With a quick fix I exited the washroom and thats how many adventure was initiated.
