Chapter 11 - Elcilas' Worries

Titles: pseudonyms given to those beings who have managed to attain some outstanding achievement, of course, there are a number of conditions that must be met besides that. The first and foremost being recognition either by a great number of entities or a powerful being say for example a spirit king or a god. Still, this is not the only way one can earn a title. One might find themselves with one simply by being born into a certain race like the elves who are all born with the title 'child of the forest'. Titles enhance the abilities to those they are bestowed upon. A mundane class swordsman with the title of 'Sword Saint' might not necessarily be disadvantaged whilst fighting a non-titled swordsman of a higher class. This, whilst being important is not the main purpose of the titles. There are countless powerful and chaotic existences within the five thousand realms each with enough power to erase entire worlds with but a thought. If you were told that you could attract the attention ( or in some cases directly summon) of one such existence by merely speaking its name would you dare to? Your average person might not but there are innumerable souls that thirst for power and would give anything to gain it. For this reason, the true names of powerful entities are kept secret from the public known only to those at the top of the hierarchy. This led to aliases like

[Prisoner of the Golden Headband], [Pancosmic Loner] and most recently [Twilight's Enigma] being affixed to said entities.

A few lonely stars twinkled in the inky night sky shedding specks of light on the world below. The gouged, scorched earth, was littered with uprooted trees and an assortment of pebbles, leaves and twigs that were chaotically thrown about. And amidst this scene of havoc lay a single azure slithern.

A gust of wind blew across the sea of green- except this was no ordinary wind. A shadowy figure appeared next to the unconscious serpent. This was no metaphor, it was quite literally a clump of shadowy mist. The figure gazed down at Azra's unconscious body with confusion.

"Hmm, it's still alive." the silhouette or rather Elcilas muttered.

When the master had given the order to observe the creature it would be no understatement to say that Elcilas was reluctant. After all what was so interesting about a common snake? Now, however, his/her sentiments couldn't have been any more different; this was no ordinary snake. In fact, Elcilas wasn't even sure if this thing was even a snake.

Elcilas' gazed curiously at the frail body lying before him(?) and a peculiar feeling surfaced in her(?) hollow green eyes. It was strange the more he(?) eyed the creature the stronger the feeling became...it was a sense of...dissonance. Like it was an alien, an outsider, something that did not belong and with this feeling came a surging animosity.

'Kill it. End its life. Do it! Do it now!' a voice seemed to whisper.

"The planar consciousness. But why?" Elcilas mumbled in conflict.

A cloud black vapour separated from Elcilas' body and quickly assumed the form of a sword.

"Should I kill it?"

"No." She(?) concluded after a moment of mulling, "master only asked me to observe it. If I harm it master might be mad."

The mist seemed to shiver ever so slightly.

"In that case, I can't leave it like this either, it's been a while since master took an interest in something."

That said the sword morphed once more into shadows which then enveloped the little snake's body entirely.

'Why haven't you killed it yet?' the voice he(?) had heard before whispered again.

Ignoring the voice Elcilas continued with what she(?) was doing.

Why was the planar consciousness so obsessed with this thing anyway? Whatever it didn't matter all he(?) had to do was carry out the master's orders.

*Poof*

Then both disappeared in a puff of black smoke. The duo appeared once more near Azra's makeshift home. The cloud of mist floated him gently into the mouth of the burrow before gently placing him down. It then retracted and joined the main body once more. Elcilas vanished again before returning briefly and placed a rabbit next to the unconscious Azra.

"This should be enough right," Elcilas grumbled before gazing in a certain direction.

"Things seem to be getting interesting." He(?) said with a chuckle before fading away.
