Riding the wind, I look observe the greenery below me. The whole area is covered in brown. Almost all the vegetation in the town is dead, meaning I have nothing to work with.
Flying around for a couple minutes I finally spot slightly withered shrubbery in a pot. Small, dried up berries are barely hanging on the branches.
I drop down, landing in the nutrient-less dirt. I bury myself in the dirt and splice myself with the seeds from the plant. Using one of the seeds for my conscious, I'm lifted back up into the sky to search for a water source, preferably a stream or river, not a well.
This town has to have some sort of water, otherwise they would have died in days. But whether it was a man made well or natural water source, I'm not sure. I'm just hoping that this town was built here because it was near a natural source of water.
I'm getting really lucky tonight. I find a lake in walking distance of the town. I plant myself next to the fertile soil and quickly germinate, sprouting leaves in minutes. While that seed was growing, I moved my consciousness back and forth between the seeds, carrying each one to the lake and planting it along the shore.
But... they berries won't be enough food for the whole town, and they don't grow fast enough to keep supplying berries every day...looking like I'm going to have to experiment.
I spent the whole night searching the area, splicing different plants together to see the result and around 6 hours later, I finished making the new and improved seed.
Growing alongside the shore of the lake are dark green bushes with purplish blue fruit the size of peaches. But although it's the size of a peach, it has a hard shell like a coconut, so it won't be eaten by bugs or birds. The inside is like a potato, so it can used to create a variety of dishes and has more nutrients than all those foods combined. The leaves of the bushes have thorns so large animals will stay away from it and it will continue to produce fruit no matter the season. Like a cactus, it can store large amounts of water, so it'll survive both a drought and a flood. I also spliced it with a weed, so it'll keep growing with a fast reproduction rate.
