Dennis didn't bother to knock. He burst into Sera's room and started telling her what happened.
From the way he entered, Sera knew it wasn't good news. She started listening carefully.
" now he is destroying the doctors lounge. I know he is sad. I know he is reminded of his grandmother's death but I don't want to see him that way. He needs to stop" Dennis told Sera while staring at her with a pleaing gaze. He hoped that Sera could make him stop as she was his last hope.
Sera felt angry and sad by what she heard from Dennis but she was also reminded of her former self when her godmother died. She knew how Daniel was feeling at that moment and she knew how to calm him down.
" Dennis, get me a wheelchair cause my legs are still sore from the therapy session" Sera ordered Dennis.
Even though she could walk, she has just finished her therapy session before Dennis entered so her legs were screaming of pain but she knew that this problem couldn't be ignored. Daniel sacrificed his time for her so now it was time to return the favour.
"Here..." After Dennis got a wheelchair, he took Sera by the hand and helped her to the wheelchair. After adjusting, Dennis took the occupied wheelchair to the doctor's lounge.
Dennis stopped in front of a locked door. It was apparent that Daniel hadn't stopped breaking things as the sounds of shattering glass echoed in the hallway.
Sera stood up with Dennis's help.
She knocked on the door. 'Knock bam bam knock'.
There were two seconds of silence that were interrupted by another sound of wrecking.
Sera shouted " Daniel let me in or I will break the door and hurt my feet and and we both worked so hard to rehabilitate it. "
It was quiet for a moment until footsteps started to echo.... It was daniel's.
Daniel opened the door and both Sera and Dennis entered. The room was in shambles. Nothing was in its place. The furniture was upside down. Shards of glass were scattered on the ground.
Sera looked at Daniel and the sight wasn't right for the eye to see. His hair was too messy. His eyes were red as if a monster tried to pluck them out and his clothes were disheveled. He looked miserable.
Sera stood in front of him. Their eyes were caught staring at each other but a slap from Sera caught the attention of everything. Sera was angry but Daniel was surprised. It was to the point that his brain stopped thinking. He stared at her with bloodlust. It was clear that he was angry.
Sera cupped Daniel's face with her hands and started talking
"Do you think that what you are doing will bring her back???"
"........."
" Daniel, It isn't on you. Her death isn't your fault."
Daniel pushed Sera away after she said that statement and he started shouting with a pained voice.
" no, it is. .......I could have changed her mind. She shouldn't have signed these papers. I might have saved her"
Sera was on the verge of crying cause she felt familiar with his state. She had gone through all that but she didn't want Daniel to experience that pain.
" Daniel Daniel, look at me, you would have saved her but she never wanted to be saved. She wanted to die with the heart that you gave her and she did. You already saved her. You have done your job as a doctor. You shouldn't blame yourself." Sera said these words while hugging Daniel and carressing his back to try to comfort him.
Daniel started crying while hugging Sera.
After a while Daniel calmed down and let go of Sera. Sera returned to the wheelchair as her legs couldn't handle her weight anymore. She looked at Daniel and found him staring at the floor.
" Daniel, now is the time for you to stare at the ceiling and review your dead patients." Sera told Daniel as a way of telling him to think of this case medically so that he could find closure and would be able to say that he did everything in his power on this case.
As Sera had guessed, Daniel said out loud that he did everything he can to save Madison.
" the patient requested a DNR so there was nothing I could have done but to respect the patient's wishes"
Dennis finally talked to his friend
"Daniel, Madison wanted you to smile when she leaves but look at your state. Do you call that respecting their wishes. Get a hold of yourself"
Daniel looked at his surroundings and realized what he had done. He couldn't believe that he did all that. He was more guilty because he made his friends worry about him.
Daniel told them that he wanted to be alone for a while. He asked Dennis to send Sera to her room.
Sera and Dennis were hesitant to leave him alone so sera decided to stay with him.
"Hey, loneliness is unhealthy especially now. I will bestow my presence upon you" she told Daniel in a way to lighten the mood but all it did was a faint smile on his face.
They both stayed in the messy room without saying a single word to each other. All they did was watch the sunrise together quietly.
Dennis on the other hand watched them from afar and left after he received a call from an old friend.
It was Caroline, another doctor who went abroad to open her practice.
He felt nostalgic and started filling her in about the recent news.
" looks like our Daniel found his one and only" Dennis said with a smirk while looking at the rising sun that announced the new day.
