I lay there for some time, how much exactly I do not know. I didn't move at all and almost drifted off into sleep, hoping that this would be one horrible nightmare I would wake up from when I closed my eyes now and opened them in reality.
No such luck.
Unexpectedly, there was the sound of boots on the deck. My whole body froze up. Wild, erratic fear gripped my heart. More panic welled up in my chest. My whole chest tightened in apprehension. My stomach felt tight like I was about to either hurl or dry heave. I prayed neither.
A yelp suggested I had been seen.
The footsteps stopped.
A face suddenly loomed in my vision. It was a man, his face weathered from many years in the sun. His hands were rough and calloused. I realized my own hands did not look too different.
Was I a sailor? But no...women couldn't be sailors...
Wait! Was that another snatch of memory? Perhaps...could it be?
Did I remember something...?
But what was it I thought I remembered?
Blast. It was gone now.
"Who are you?" the man asked, his voice gruff.
I didn't respond, unsure how to.
He got angry. His face contorted and he said, "I AM THE CAPTAIN OF THIS SHIP AND I DEMAND TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE!"
