Chapter 2 - Mila and Nahla

As I back my bag I grab my clothes for land as well as some of my seashell bras for the ocean. I grab my drift wood comb which I remember Calder whittled for me on my 17th birthday. It has my initials carved into it - A.M.N. I smile at the gift and put it into my suitcase. All of our land clothes are protected with this special powder made by some sea witches for mermaids who go onto land a lot on missions. They keep the clothes dry even under water until they feel the air. They can't get wet which I find cool. Our tails turn into legs when we are on land and then back into our tails when we are in water, accept for some mermaids. I got a special necklace fromt he king that allowed me to have my legs even in the water which is needed incase we want to go swimming with humans if on a mission. That necklace has a small moonstone enchanted my witches for that reason which I wear everyday and have added of seashells and pearls to it. I grab some of my other things and put them into my bag before swimming out of my room into our living room. I see my family sitting on our couch. I swim over and sit down with them.

"Your going to be okay, right?" My mom says curiously making sure. I nod at them before giving them all a big hug and kiss on the cheek. I hear a knock again on the door and open it to see Mila, my best friend and another gifted student at the academy that got picked my the king. "You got activated too?" I ask as she nods and shows me her letter. "Yup! The king must have something serious for us to do if he got the two baddest bitches in the ocean on it!" She says as she puts her hand on her hip. Her tail was a light purple with golden speckles. I look into her silvery purple eyes as she put runs a hand through her dark brown hair that fades to gold at the end. "We will be back soon Mom!" I say as I wave at them and head off towards the king's palace. The king's palace was about an three hour swim but Mila and I decided to take a small shortcut through a current that should get us about twenty minutes from the palace. We start swimming over in that direction and bump into our friend, Nahla. She was also accepted by the king on behalf of her family being one of the best sea witches in the ocean. She has on the same necklace as us but instead her stone is red, like Mila's is purple and mine is a grayish blue. They must reflect off of our tail colors which is why some have golden flakes and silver specks in them.

"Hey gillls!" She says swimming over and tailfiving us. Her short dark brown hair is french braided and her brown and red eyes are shining. We smile and talk on our way towards the current. As we reach the current we see some guards outside the entrance checking for identification. As we reach they see our necklaces and let us by. We grabbed some giant seashells, having an idea to do a trick we learned when we all first got our necklaces. We placed our bags in a smaller current so we didn't have to carry them as we get ready for our tricks. "NA WAWAE!" We all say put in unison. Our tails our covered in gold sparkles coming from our necklaces. As the sparkles fade we see our legs and luckily we have on some bottoms with small skirts. We all jump into the current and slam on our seashells surfing along the current. We do quite a few tricks with Mila doing a 180 on her board as well as Nahla doing some cool flips as well. As we arrive at our stop we drop the shells and quickly grab our bags. We say the spell for our tails to come back and quickly our magnificent tails return. We swim towards the palace to see it's gloriousness. It was solid gold with many tall towers and rooms. It had a beautiful stain glass window of a mermaid sitting on a rock using her siren powers to lure seamen to there doom. It was a power we never usually used unless of course to damn seamen. The grand golden doors open as we approach and we are meet with the giant throne room of the king and queen. We see them sitting on there thrones staring at us. Only the three of us are there as we begin to approach the King and Queen.
