Chapter 36 - Time

Jack was currently sitting on the top of a metal ladder near a spaceship with his face and some of his upper body inside one part of the hull that was opened up.

He was tinkering around some electronics and other hydraulic parts and a clear sizzling sound was heard from inside.

When the sound stopped and he seemed to have finished up what he was doing he came back out of it.

Then he swiped away some black grease from his cheek with his sleeves.

"Phew, girl. Hope that fixed your little hiccups." Jack seemed to talk to the ship as he patted the hull with a smile.

"You sure treat your ship nicely. Why are you adressing it as a female?", asked a voice from the side now.

Hearing that, Jack had to look over to the person commenting and saw Ahsoka looking up at him.

"What? Getting jealous or something?" He said back with a small chuckle.

"Why would I be jealous of a ship?" She only rolled her eyes knowing he was being sarcastic.

"Careful there. For some, their ships are everything to them. And I do love my ship. Built it from scratch after all." Jack was now climbing down the ladder.

When he reached the ground he wiped away the remaining dirt on his hands on his mechanic clothes that he wore for works on the ship. They were easier to move in than the robes.

"Hmm, it's the first time I see it. No wonder you spent so much time in the hangers. Is that the ship we will use? Are you sure it will not fall apart?", asked Ahsoka after having done her inspection of the same ship that Jack was so lovestruck with.

"You hurt my feelings. This beauty is probably the fastest ship ever built, if I may say so myself. It got a nice pack at the back. Those tweaked second class hyperdrives are an aesthetic phenomenon. Just look how curvacious they are." He chuckled again while exaggerating the backside of his ship.

"Why does it sound like you are talking about something else?" Ahsoka smirked at him and shook her head slightly. "So, what do you think? Will they react well to us?"

That serious question now let Jack's smile lessen. "You know. If you worry too much, you will start getting wrinkles on that cute face." He tapped her nose lightly with a finger. "You will be fine. By the way. Those pearls look good on you."

Ahsoka smiled happily hearing him. She then fixed her padawan decoration on her forehead and adjusted the pearls hanging down her yet still short Montral and Lekku.

"Thanks.", she answered and pursed her lips even more into a content expression. "How come they made two padawan braids in your hair?"

Jack actually really had those braids on both his right and left side in front of his ears. His medium-long black hair was otherwise tied at the back with white strings into a small ponytail.(Think of Indra Otsutsuki.)

"That was my choice. I guess I got a small knack for things being in balanced..."

Ahsoka giggled at that answer.

"But are you sure I will be fine? It's that prodigy after all. The one they call the chosen one." She still remained on that topic and seemed to be concerned about it. Although it lessened somewhat.

"That is only a stupid prophecy.", said Jack now after hearing her mention that.

"You don't believe in it?"

"I know what that is about and I think it is stupid. We Sith actually got such a prophecy as well and all I gotta say is: let's just hope it isn't the case."

"What? Bring balance to the Force? I thought of it being good?" Ahsoka was now intrigued and confused at the same time.

"No...But if people would at least think what that would imply, they should hope it really isn't the case." JAck once again repeated the same words to still remain on the same track of mind.

"Just think about it. In our version, the Sith'arii one that is, the chosen one is supposed to bring victory to the Sith and break us free or something like that. Sure, he also leads them to their own demise but I don't remember the exact wording anymore since it was told to me a long time ago. The Jedi version talks about balance. But balance to what? I don't really see the dark side having the upper hand? There are a lot of light side Jedi traveling the universe now as far as we know and that would mean the prophecy of the chosen one would, in both prophesies, mean that the chosen one becomes a powerful Dark Jedi. So that is why I am saying: let's hope that will not be the case."

"Oh, I get it. That really is something to think about. But why would the masters not take that into consideration?" Ahsoka nodded to that explanation and presented another question to him. It really sounded the wrong way if one had that in mind.

"Who knows...There are many things I wonder about that the order handles the wrong way. This war for example is one of them." Jack just shrugged his shoulders and started walking towards the ramp of the ship.

"Wait, some are even talking about you being the chosen one and that my master was never the one? You may not have noticed it since you don't seem to interact much with the others in the temple but that rumor did spread..."

When Jack heard that he stopped in his tracks. Turning around he looked at Ahsoka.

"Then I REALLY hope that is not the case. Anyway, let's go. We need to travel some distance. Master Kenobi should already have been informed about us being their padawans." Jack didn't like that rumor since it gave him something to think about as well now.

"Hmm, I guess you are right about it being some stupid thing that people probably created to keep hope up in a dire situation?" Ahsoka tried to figure out why such a prophecy would exist in the first place.

Jack on the other hand wondered how the chosen one rumor was so widespread about Anakin and especially being connected to himself now. Blabbermouths everywhere, unbelievable.

"Could be. But if it ever became true, you don't need to worry. I will make sure not to punish you too hard for being a Jedi. Maybe then I will even really try turning you." Jack now joked around again.

Ahsoka responded with a small pout to his words but Jack didn't see it because his back was to her.
