Chereads / The Demon's Curse: Rise of the Evil / Chapter 2 - The Encounter

Chapter 2 - The Encounter

It was calm evening. There was a mild wind blowing from time to time, the sky was little cloudy. A teenage girl was following her friend to the forest behind their village. It didn't seem like it made her happy.

"Are you sure about it? Entering forest is forbidden." she asked him while walking behind him. He didn't slow down and continued walking, the forest was almost in front of them.

"Don't be always so scared. It's gonna be fine, we won't go deep into it." the tone of his voice showed his lack of interest in returning back to village. The girl didn't answer. *I guess I'll be alright with him* she thought. They arrived to the edge of the forest. The boy turned around and looked at her "Are you ready?" She nodded in agreement so they started walking in.

It was much darker inside the forest than it was outside. "We should hurry up, it won't take long before it gets completely dark in here." said the scared girl. The boy didn't pay any attention to it. The deeper they went the more strange plants they could see. "Wow! That flower is glowing!" shouted the girl in excitement. The boy was also excited because he had always dreamt about going in the forest. And now it was the day his dream became reality.

"Maybe we will find some magic plants if we are lucky enough" he said as he carefully looked around him. And then he saw something very strange. "Hey, what's there? Behind those two white trees?" he asked her. She didn't see it at first but she understood what he meant after a while. "It looks like some building? Let's go little closer." He didn't wait on her answer and started walking towards the strange stone building. It was really old looking entrance built with stone with damaged wooden door in the middle. The door had to lead somewhere under ground.

"Please don't go inside Toby, I'm scared, let's go back to the village. Our parents must be worried about us." she whispered and sobbed like a small baby.

"Don't be stupid, this is our life chance! There could be some amazing treasure inside. We would be so rich...." he saw really good looking visions in his mind. He took her hand and dragged her to the wooden door with him. He then let her hand go and opened the wooden door. He could feel the cold air inside the underground tunnel leading into darkness. "Oh look, someone left us here a torch!" he said as he picked the object from the basket on the right side of the entrance. He turned to his companion. "Could you please light it with your magic?" She nodded. "Ignite" as she said this world the torch began to burn. Then they went inside.

First few meters were just a tunnel, but they quickly came to old stone stairs leading down to the darkness. "I'm very scared." The girl was shaking. The boy in reaction grabbed her hand.

"I'm here with you, don't worry about anything. We'll just quickly look around and then we'll go back home okay?" she didn't answer. They began to walking down the stairs. The temperature was slowly dropping. After a few minutes they reached the bottom. It was huge dark room. The torch was iluminating only the closest area around it but it wasn't strong enough to iluminate the whole room. They didn't stop walking and they could see several stone pillars supporting the ceiling. After a little while of walking they reached the end of the room. There were stone doors that looked like they wouldn't open easily. And there was a stone pedestal in front of them, with old book covered in leather. The boy went closer, put his torch close so he could have a closer look on the book. He opened it and saw golden written text. *The Tomb of Arachne*. He turned the page and started reading the text written there so the girl could hear it too. "Once ruthless demon lord, Arachne was betrayed by the only man she trusted." he turned the page again. "He cursed her into eternal sleep behind these doors." the story continued on the next page. "She shall remain buried forever." Toby was curious so he turned the page once again, but he got disgusted immediately. The text on that page was different than the others, it was written in blood. He started reading loud again. "I'm not scared what awaits me behind these doors. Arachne Aperi". As he said the last words, the room got filled by light. On the sides were giant stone vessels filled with oil that started burning. Both of them got scared.

"What did you do? What is happening? Let's get out of here!" shouted the girl, she was panicking. He was now scared as well. Was that some kind of magic spell? They could see stone statues in the room. They depicted woman with spider legs growing from her back.

"Yes, let's leave now." the boy announced. When they turned around to head out towards the exit, one sound could be heard. And that sound made their heart beat really quick. It was sound of really heavy object moving on stone floor. They turned around just to see how the stone doors were opening. Small room appeared in front of them. There were two pedestals with green flames burning in them. The room was also filled with treasure. Gold coins, goblets, jewelry. And at the end of the room was sarcophagus and legendary magic sword sticked into the ground in front of it. *I was right! Look! The treasure has actually been here!" the boy shouted with excitement, instantly forgetting about the book. The girl wasn't as happy as him about it though.

"Be careful, I think it's trap." she said. He didn't listen to her. He was filling his pockets with gold.

"Don't just stand there and help me with it, I can't take everything on my own!" she listened to what he said and did the exactly same thing. Their pockets were full after a while and their bodies were decorated by all kinds of jewelry. They were ready to leave but the boy got interested in the powerful looking sword. He went to grab it. He pulled it out from the ground, examining it in his hand. "I can already feel the power flowing through my body, look at me, the famous warrior Toby" he joked. But his good mood didn't last long. The sarcophagus started opening behind him.

"Toby! Watch out!" the girl shouted. He turned around. There was beautiful woman inside with her eyes closed. Her hair was white like a spider web and she was wearing armor from material that he couldn't identify. She opened her eyes. They were red like blood, glowing and deadly. Toby couldn't move? Was that some spell? Or was it just fear from the strange lady in front of him? He wasn't sure. She walked out very slowly from the sarcophagus. She wasn't ready to move like a normal person after centuries of sleep. It looked like she just noticed the two humans in front of her.

"So you woke me up." She smiled at the boy with evil expression. "And you brought someone with you? Is that your girlfriend? I will reward her first so I can spend more time with you." She waved with her hand and said some words in unknown language. The girl started to scream from pain. It felt like her belly was burning. The boy was confused and panicking.

"What did you do to her?!" he shouted at the woman in front of him. She giggled.

"I gave her really powerful gift... but don't worry about her. Now it's time for your reward."

The pain in the teenage girl's body stopped. She lifted her Tshirt a little. She was shocked, there was something on her skin. It looked like some runes or symbols tattooed on her body. The boy saw it too. "You bitch!" he told the woman. Then he turned back to his friend. "Run! Get out of here! Get help from the village!"

"I can't leave you here alon..."

"Do what I told you! I will be fine just run! The girl listened to him even though she didn't want to. She ran out from the small room towards the exit. She was crying. The boy was happy when he saw his friend getting out of there. Then the mysterious woman came closer to him.

"Oh well, it would be fun if she could see this but.. let's have a little fun without her."

The girl was running up the stone stairs. She could hear her friend screaming from the darkness below. She was crying even more, scared as hell, but she knew she couldn't help him with her current strength and skills. She had to get to the village.

It was pleasant evening in the village. Villagers were dancing by the campfire while some of them were playing on musical instruments. They were all having fun, enjoying their lives. But the happiness and fun disappeared when they got interrupted by crying girl who looked like she saw something terrible.
