Worried about the noise these cars are making, I look in the rearview mirror and see two pairs of headlights coming towards me, the intersection I was passing is a corner, so the two cars were coming around the corner skidding with the rear tires of the vehicle without expecting there to be a car in the middle of the intersection this time in the morning. I couldn't dodge the car that was driving sideways, and it also didn't have enough control to avoid me when the back wheels weren't stuck on the ground.
**Sarah POV**
I know I shouldn't worry so much, he's almost an adult now, but I'm a mother, there's no way I can't worry about him, especially when it's the first party he goes out to drink alone and it's 5:00 am, and he hasn't come back yet, not even the messages I sent him.
When I got up from bed to go for a drink of water in the kitchen, the phone that was in my hand the whole time started ringing, and I quickly answered the unknown number that was calling me.
"Hello?" I asked, feeling a horrible sensation invading my chest as if something that I was very afraid of had finally happened.
"Good evening, do I happen to speak to Mrs. Black?" A man's voice came from the other side of the call.
Hearing him say my name, the intuition I was having became even stronger, and my legs became weaker. "Yeah, it's me, did something happen?"
"Sorry to inform you, ma'am, but your son was in a car accident tonight, and he's in hospital XXXXX, could you please come as his guardian?" The man asked, causing me to lose control of my legs and fall to my knees to the ground.
"Yes, sir, I'll be there in a few moments." I told him and got up off the floor quickly after I hung up to wake John and the kids.
We went straight to the hospital, when we got there, while I carried Sue on my lap and John carried Henry, we got to the nurse, and I asked quickly. "Where is Zhanye Black's room?"
The nurse, who was probably used to this kind of situation, looked at the records and said to us. "He's in room 304, just follow that straight corridor, and it'll be a room on your right."
Before she could finish talking I ran out with Sue on my lap looking for my son's room, when I saw room number 304, I saw a beautiful boy with long blond hair lying on a bed with his eyes closed. Seeing this scene made my heart hurt, and my eyes that were already hurting again shed tears.
At least when I looked at him through the window, I could only see a few small cuts on his body and a band wrapped around his head.
I open the door, and together with Sue, we hold his hands, which at that time was a little cold. "Doctor, will he be all right?" I asked, trying to control my tears once again, only to fail again.
"Calm down, ma'am, from what the cops said, apparently two cars were betting illegal races and while your son was passing a traffic light that was green for him, the two cars came illegally at the red light and skidded before losing control and hitting his car. According to our tests, he's fine, he just had a slight bump on the head and lost consciousness, nothing that puts his life at risk, he can rest assured". The doctor, who was about 50 years old, said as he tried to calm me down.
The words he said had a lot of effects, leaving my heart a little more reassured to know that he was no longer in danger but to know that it was other people's fault that this accident made my anger as a mother ignite in my chest to demand justice for my son.
But before I could scream to look for the police, I heard Henry's scared little voice, "Mommy, is big bro gonna be okay?" He asked as little tears fell from his face.
Seeing this scene broke my heart, seeing Sue also crying while holding Zhanye's hand, I couldn't stand it, and the intensity of my tears increased once again. Knowing that he was no longer at risk, I took the two little ones and tried to calm them down and calm myself too. "Don't worry kids, the doctor said your brother will be fine in no time, so he'll be able to play with you non-stop, how about it?"
Hearing this, the twins were a little happier, but still, the concern in their eyes was quite noticeable.
"Honey, I'll get in touch with my hospital staff so we can transfer Zhanye there, so it'll be easier for me to keep an eye on him. The children must be tired, go home with them, or even to their parents' house, and I will take care of Zhanye". John said to me in a calm voice.
I was going to protest to him, but he came very close to my ear and told me that this kind of environment would not be healthy for children to stay in, either physically or psychologically, which I understood and reluctantly accepted.
"Let's go home kids, your brother needs a rest tonight, we'll come to visit him later, all right?" I asked the kids.
"You gotta get better, big bro. Don't forget, you promised to take us to the amusement park." Henry said as he wiped the tears from his face.
Sue just went quietly and kissed Zhanye on the cheek, hoping that he would recover soon, with his little face also full of tears flowing.
On the way home, the only thing I thought about was trying to find out from the police who were the perpetrators of that accident that my son became the victim.
